Rublev, A Former Quarter-finalist in New York
Andrey Rublev produced one of the most spectacular starts to the year of any player in the last 15 years. In fact, not since Dominik Hrbaty in 2004 had we seen a player win two titles in the first two tournaments to kick-start the tennis season.
Before January, the Russian had won two career titles on tour, but he doubled that figure after claiming titles in Doha and Adelaide respectively. He extended his winning run to 10 matches by reaching the Round of 16 at the Australian Open before falling to Alexander Zverev.
However, the 22-year-old did not lose all the momentum after Melbourne. He made back-to-back quarterfinals in Rotterdam and Dubai before the tour ultimately was suspended as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Naturally, Rublev would have been devastated by the break, but instead he says he is not one to complain and considers himself very lucky. Ranked 14 in world, the former US Open quarter-finalist kept himself busy by working on his game in an effort to disconnect from everything that was happening around the world.
He did play a couple of exhibition tournaments namely: the circus that was the Adria Tour and the Thiem’s Seven in Austria.

Barrere Equals Best Showing at US Open
Gregoire Barrere made his Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2016 French Open where he received a wild card entrant, but lost to David Goffin in the first round. It took the Frenchman some time to finally reach the peak of his powers after showing early promise during his embryonic tennis years.
In 2019, he won two Challenger titles on the indoor hard courts of Lille and Quimper, and finished runner-up in Orleans. Barrere cracked the top-100 last September after making the second round of the US Open, having also reached the same stage at Wimbledon and Roland Garros a few months earlier. In the midst of those results, he also squeezed in a quarterfinal showing the ATP 250 event in Metz.
The 26-year-old peaked at no.80 in the rankings, and finished 2019 ranked no.82 in the world. He opened his 2020 US Open account by landing 52 winners in a four-set win over Japan’s Taro Daniel to reach the second round for the second consecutive year.
Rublev v Barrere Prediction & Tip
Rublev will look to take out a second Frenchman in as many days following his first round win over Jeremy Chardy. We reckon this will be a fairly straight-forward afternoon for the former US Open quarter-finalist.
Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
