This will be the first time that the 31st-ranked Evans and the 77th-ranked Moutet will be facing off in a competitive match.

It’s been the kind of year for Evans where he would be satisfied but not overly pleased. On the positive side was his appearance in the semifinal of the Dubai Open and a quarterfinal at Adelaide and Rotterdam, to go with three wins from four matches at the ATP Cup.
However, an early exit at the Australian Open and a second round loss at the Cincinnati Open would hurt, especially given the inability to convert any of the other tournaments into a finals appearance either.
Which is also why he would take his first round result with both hands. Evans was punishing in his first round win over Thiago Seyboth Wild, winning 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 to clinch his place here. And a win for Evans in this match will help him emulate his best showing at the US Open, which he has achieved thrice already.
What it could also do is to set up a potential third round clash with fellow Brit Andy Murray. For that, Murray will need to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime too though.

Moutet Crushes Vesely to Move to Maiden Second Round Here
Moutet is typically a strong clay court player and all his best results have come on that surface too. This includes titles at the lower, Futures and Challenger level and the French Open where he made the third round last year.
That is not to say he is a one-dimensional player, because his sole ATP finals appearance came on the hard courts of the Qatar Open earlier this year. He lost to Andrey Rublev in that match but it would have given him the much-needed shot in the arm at this early stage of his career.
And he now features in the second round at the US Open, which again his already his best showing on his third attempt.
In the first round here, Moutet was particularly severe in his demolition of Jiri Vesely as he blitzed past his opponent 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. Now for a first real test for the Frenchman.
