Angelique Kerber v Ann Li Head to Head
Kerber and Li have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Kerber Sends Out Fellow German
Former US Open winner Kerber registered her second successive straight-set win to enter the third round of the competition, defeating Anna-Lena Friedsam in the process. What the scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 doesn’t show is the caginess of the match, which saw Kerber make three breaks of serve as opposed to getting broken twice of her own.
And Kerber was happy to admit she was made to work hard and has already faced two close matches despite them not going into the third set.
Speaking about returning back to the sport, after having last played in January at the Australian Open, Kerber said:
“It’s not so easy, so that’s why I’m really happy that I had two close matches, especially today in the second set where just one point decides the second set.”
The one point separation Kerber is referring to is the fact they went neck in neck in the second tie-breaker, with the German serving at 4-5 and then winning 8-6. Earlier in the tournament Kerber had beaten Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-4.

Li Sends Riske Packing
Who would have though the 128th-ranked, 20-year-old playing in the main draw of just her second Grand Slam would dispose off the world number 20 in the manner she did. Li was on court for just 75 minutes in which she dropped only three games on her way to a maiden third round berth.
What was remarkable about Li’s showing was she faced just one break-point in the entire match – and she was broken – and herself broke Riske five times of the 12 opportunities he had.
Li also scored over her opponent on both, the first and second serves. She won 68% of her first serve points and 58% of her second serve ones, as compared to 51% and 26% respectively for Riske.
In her first round match too, Li had surprised an opponent ranked way higher than her, Arantxa Rus but by beating a 20th-ranked player, the American might have already sent a few more shock-waves. Are there more surprised on the way?
Kerber v Li Prediction & Tip
Interestingly, Kerber is 2/5 to win this, which are higher odds than the 1/3 Riske was at going into her second round match against Li. It’s an indicator of an acknowledgement of Li’s showing so far. We still think Kerber should win this one but probably wit over 20.5 games to be played in the match.
Tip: Kerber to win: 2/5 (bet365)
