Yulia Putintseva v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

Two previous matches have been played between Putintseva and Sasnovich and on both occasions it was Putintseva who came out on top. The first time was at the ITF circuit where Putintseva dropped just four games on clay before beating her in a qualifier at the Sydney International. She won 6-1, 6-1 this time.

Pretty Straightforward for Putintseva So Far

Two matches played and two won in straight sets. Putintseva hasn’t dropped more than three games in a set in either of the encounters and the 35th-ranked has looked as good on court as ever.

In the first round Putintseva had a 500+ ranked opponent in the form of Robin Montgomery, so the 6-1, 6-3 result was on expected lines. As luck would have it, her second round opponent, Varvara Lapko, who is a former world number 60, is also currently ranked outside the top 300 and Putintseva had no troubles against her either.

The Kazakh had earlier made it to the third round at the Australian Open too, before repeating the feat at the Qatar Open earlier this year. Can she now go one better to make it her best showing at Flushing Meadows?

She does have a chance as she takes on another player ranked outside the top 100.

Sasnovich Shock for French Open Runner-up

Sure, Sasnovich is a former world number 30 before she fell to her current ranking of 106th in the world. However, coming into the tournament, she had won just one main draw match this season on hard court surfaces and that had come long ago – in the first week of January.

Her opening round win against Francesca Di Lorenzo would have been bit of a relief as a result but then you would have expected that kind of a result against a 129th-ranked player. What wasn’t expected was Sasnovich’s showing against the world number 19, Marketa Vondrousova, 2019’s French Open runner-up.

She defeated Vondrousova but also did that in a manner that left nobody in doubt of Sasnovich’s pedigree. In a match lasting just an hour and five minutes, Sasnovich faced just six break points but saved all of them and in return broke her opponent four times. Vondousova’s 21 unforced errors didn’t help her cause but with 76% of her first serve points won, Sasnovich was always going to be tough to topple.

Can she top this result though and make it to her first ever fourth round at the US Open?

Putintseva v Sasnovich Prediction & Tip

Putintseva is 8/11 to win this as compared to her opponent’s 11/10. It shows how close things could get but we are still backing the Kazakh to take this home.

Tip: Putintseva to win: 2/5 (bet365)
