Angelique Kerber v Jennifer Brady Head to Head

This will be the first time the world number 23 Kerber and the 41st-ranked Brady will be facing off in a competitive match.

Kerber Showing Signs of the Past Sparkle

Former US Open winner and world number one Kerber has had her struggles in recent times, especially since winning the 2018 Wimbledon title. A second round exit at the following Wimbledon and two early ousters in the last two US Open competitions have meant she hasn’t seen a single Grand Slam quarterfinal since that Wimbledon victory.

At the Australian Open earlier this year, Kerber had a chance to make it through to the last eight when she won the first set against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova but then lost a close match. And strangely, she hadn’t played any tennis since then.

Probably it’s the break, the mental relaxation that has helped but Kerber has looked a different player. She has won three matches in straight sets to reach round four, including a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ann Li in round three.

Earlier, wins over Ajla Tomljanovic and Anna-Lena Friedsam weren’t too testing either and while the real test begins from here on, she has the experience and now seems fresher than ever for another bite at adding to her three Grand Slam titles.

Brady Living up to Her Pre-Tournament Form

There hasn’t yet been a lot of hype about Brady but now that she has made it into round four – and in the manner that she has – the world could begin to take notice. The first round exit at the Cincinnati Open was a blip in a run of wins which has seen her now win eight matches, all of which have come in straight sets.

That’s right, nine matches played over the past month and some days and the eight wins she has registered have all been not just in straights but also without the loss of more than four games in any of the set.

And the opponents haven’t been the easiest either. After a straightforward victory over Anna Blinkova, there was a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Cici Bellis before Caroline Garcia was shown the door in round three, Brady winning 6-3, 6-3.

Earlier in the season, Brady had also reached the quarterfinal at Brisbane and semifinal in Dubai, both as a qualifier but more pertinently registered wins over Maria Sharapova, Ash Barty, Elina Svitolina, Marketa Vondrousova and Garbine Muguruza in the process.

Now, she faces the challenge of a well-rested Kerber and it could lead to an immovable force meeting an unstoppable object!

Kerber v Brady Prediction & Tip

It comes as very little surprise Brady is an overwhelming favourite according to the bookies too. She starts off at 4/9 and while there would be a definite fight from Kerber, we are backing a three-set win for the American.

Tip: Brady to win: 4/9 (bet365)
