Novak Djokovic v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head
Three previous matches between Djokovic and Carreno Busta have all gone the way of the world number one, including twice on clay. Their third meeting, which came last year, was on the hard court of the Cincinnati Open and Djokovic ran away a straight-set winner to enter the quarterfinal.

Djokovic Finds Life Easy against Struff
The world number one had defeated Struff in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinal in straight sets recently and things didn’t get any better for the German here in the third round. Djokovic needed just an hour and 43 minutes to get past Struff, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 to make it to the last 16, taking that step closer towards winning his 18th major.
In what was his 26th tour win of the season – and having lost none – Djokovic broke his opponent five times and faced just four break-points in turn. The gulf between the two was exemplified by the difference between the winners and unforced errors for the two. While Djokovic was at +11, Struff ended -9 and that’s where the straight-set win found its roots.
Djokovic had earlier defeated Damir Dzumhur without any trouble in the first round but was tested by Kyle Edmund in the second round. He lost the first set in a tie-breaker and had to rally back to win in four.
At times in recent matches post the pandemic, Djokovic has looked slightly vulnerable – like against Roberto Bautista-Agut in the Cincinnati Open semifinal or even the final against Milos Raonic – but in a best-of-five scenario it would take a lot to thwart him off on current form. Carreno Busta could well become his latest victim.

Carreno Busta Tested in Opener, Then Slides into Round Four
In his first round match against Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama, Carreno Busta was twice trailing his opponent on the set count but came back to win the encounter in five sets. From there on, life has been easy for him.
Carreno Busta dropped just five games in his second round win over Mitchell Kruger and while Ricardas Berankis was expected to test him out, the Spaniard won it in straight sets again. After a slow start when he lost two successive serves, Carreno Busta found his rhythm and came back to win the opening set 6-4.
The rest of the match saw Carreno Busta drop his serve just one more time as he came through 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to set up the toughest outing of his career. Carreno Busta, a 2017 US Open semifinalist, has beaten top 10 players like Milos Raonic, Kevin Anderson, Grigor Dimitrov and Fabio Fognini in the past but defeating Djokovic will be a different ball-game.
Djokovic v Carreno Busta Prediction & Tip
Djokovic is 1/20 to make the quarterfinal and 2/5 to do that in straight sets. Carreno Busta might test him in one of the sets but that’s the best we can expect out of it.
Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 2/5 (bet365)
