Jordan Thompson v John Millman Head to Head
This will be the third time the 63rd-ranked Thompson and the 43rd-ranked Millman will be facing off in a competitive match but for the first time in an ATP 250 competition. Both of their previous matches had come in Challenger competitions with Millman winning both in straight sets. One of them came in the final of the 2018 Kyoto Challenger.

Thompson Off a Career-Best Showing
Sure, it was at the US Open, played on hard court surfaces and things have moved to clay for this and the next few weeks but Thompson will be bubbling with confidence.
For a player who has been around for a while and having played seven years of Grand Slam tennis, his only time beyond the second round of a major was last year at the French Open. He had reached round three there.
Which is why his wins might not have come against the strongest of players, but that fourth round appearance which ended with a loss to Borna Coric will go a long way in adding to Thompson’s self-belief.
Like a few other players on tour, Thompson hasn’t played on clay this season and that will be an adjustment he will need to obviously make but confidence can make one do wonderful things.

Millman Also Starting off Clay Campaign
Like Thompson, Millman was also a part of the US Open where he reached the second round before falling to Frances Tiafoe. He had earlier made it to the second round of the Cincinnati Open, the first tournament he played since winning his two Davis Cup singles matches way back in March.
Millman, who suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Roger Federer at the Australian Open earlier this year, hasn’t played on clay either. Which makes it an equal test of sorts, especially given Millman’s record on the surface isn’t the best anyway.
Last season, Millman featured in seven clay tournaments, getting knocked in the first round of four of them and winning a match apiece in three. Unlike Thompson though his performances this year otherwise have been ordinary too and other than the fact he has had four more days to adapt to clay, things very much look like they are in his opponent’s favour.
Thompson v Millman Prediction & Tip
Interestingly Millman is the bookmaker’s favourite and the lack of recovery from jet-lag might play a huge part in that. Still expecting a tussle here, with three sets in the match.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
