Sara Sorribes Tormo v Paula Badosa Head to Head
Sorribes Tormo and Badosa have been playing each other for a while, with their four meetings across the different tiers in tennis having resulted in two wins for each. Two of these matches came at the ITF level, where Badosa has won both her matches, including one as recently as last year at Burnie.
The other two wins for Sorribes Tormo came on Mallorca and Wimbledon’s grass.

Sorribes Tormo Benefits from Watson’s Retirement
While the Spaniard was always a favourite going into her first round match here in Istanbul, she was benefitted even more by her opponent Heather Watson retiring from their encounter just five games into it. Sorribes Tormo was leading 3-2 when Watson retired with an injury.
Sorribes Tormo, ranked 82nd in the world, was coming into the tournament with some excellent wins under her belt. Some of those came at exhibition competitions during the pandemic break but more vitally once the season resumed, Sorribes Tormo made it as far as the quarterfinal at the Prague Open.
That showing would have given the Spaniard some confidence after a poor start to the season earlier in 2020 when she won just one main draw match before tennis was suspended. She made it to the second round with a win over Veronika Kudermetova in a match of fluctuating fortunes but there were other opening round exits at four hard court WTA tournaments.
She now faces an opponent ranked close to her and has a chance to make it to her first ever quarterfinal at Istanbul.

Badosa Comfortable on Clay
Badosa participated in no tennis tournaments, exhibition or otherwise since her second round exit at the Launceston ITF competition in February.
Her first tournament back was at the Cincinnati Open where she failed to progress beyond the qualifiers while at the US Open, a first round loss meant she was coming into the Istanbul Cup with a dented confidence but some relief over the change of surface.
And that’s how she played in her opener against Katarina Zavatska, crushing her 6-1, 6-2 to set up this second round meeting with a fellow Spaniard. Badosa might not have it as easy in this match, but for someone with an overall record of 120-70 on clay (which comprises of competitions at every level), she will be feeling good about her own self.
Sorribes Tormo v Badosa Prediction & Tip
Sorribes Tormo starts off 1/2 to win this, and we are backing her to do that. If you are looking at a slightly riskier punt, go for three sets in the match which is at 6/4.
Tip: Sorribes Tormo to win: 6/4 (bet365)
