Yannick Hanfmann v Maximilian Marterer Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings across all kinds of competition between Hanfmann and Marterer. All three of those matches came on clay starting with the 2015 Bundesliga tennis for men, and was followed by two matches this year at the DTB German Pro Series. Maximilian leads 2-1, while this year it’s been 1-1.

Hanfmann Crashes Through Lajovic’s Defenses
Lajovic would have given himself a decent chance of defeating a player ranked so far down the rankings chart but Hanfmann overturned a set deficit to come through 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and make it to the quarterfinals. We had thought this would be a three-setter but one that went in favour of Lajovic given his more solid experience.
This follows a string of matches Hanfann’s played this season on clay, a whopping 40 of them as we had discussed before his second round match. Hanfmann’s proving the decision to go all in with his tennis looked to have proved a good one for him, having beaten Ernests Gulbis, Thiago Monteiro and Alexander Bublik.
And now, with a comeback from behind victory for Hanfmann over a much higher pedigreed Lajovic, he will consider himself to be in with a chance to enter the semifinal.

Marterer Stuns Hurkacz
World number 337 Marterer was the second favourite going into his second round match against Hubert Hurkacz and played like the bookmakers didn’t know at all about what they were doing.
Marterer, who needed to qualify for the Kitzbuhel Open, spent barely any time on court in dismissing his Polish opponent 6-1, 6-4 to make it to the last eight.
Earlier, the Australian Open juniors doubles runner-up had surprised Dennis Novak and for the second match in a row, did not show any nerves or lack of skill one would typically associate with someone ranked that low.
The six-time Challenger winner has made it as far as the fourth round at the French Open, so this isn’t typically an unchartered territory for him but after the string of losses and fall in the ranking, he would be satisfied with his work here so far. Question is if he can enter his first ATP semifinal since May 2018.
Hanfmann v Marterer Prediction & Tip
This is an interesting one with both players having stunned seeded players in the second round. Expecting another three-setter here.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
