This will be the first ever competitive meeting between Kecmanovic and Hüsler.

For the second time this season, Serbia’s Kecmanovic has made it to the semifinal of an ATP competition, following on from one at the New York Open.
What makes this particularly special is over the last couple of seasons, clay hasn’t been Kecmanovic’s most preferred surface, with the Serb possessing a 5-6 win-loss record in 2019 and 11-9 in 2018 on that surface.
And while he had come into this tournament having played an exhibition competition on this very surface, Kecmanovic hadn’t played a single ATP-level clay court competition before this. Which is why for him to beat the likes of Kei Nishikori, Jordan Thompson and then Federico Delbonis in the quarterfinal has been excellent to watch.
Kecmanovic was a 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 winner over Delbonis in a match that tested him out but to have come out on top against a clay court specialist would have given him immense satisfaction.

Hüsler 17-3 This Season
Sure, most of Hüsler’s matches have come at the lower circuit and exhibition tournaments but for him to have lost just three of his 20 matches speaks volumes about his improving form.
Having begun the year during the pandemic break with an appearance at the Swiss Masters exhibition tournament, he went on to win the title there, and then clinched the main draw berth at the Ostrava Challenger once the season resumed.
And while he lost in the first round at that Challenger competition, Hüsler has now come on in leaps and bounds, defeating some very big names to make the semifinal.
Qualifying for the main draw with a couple of victories, it was followed by a shock win over Fabio Fognini in the second round and a 6-4, 6-3 rout of Feliciano Lopez in the quarterfinal.
It could be a different matter against Kecmanovic.
