Dayana Yastremska v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
There have been three matches between Yastremska and Giorgi before this and the Italian leads 2-1 on head to head. Both of Giorgi’s wins have come on clay, which gives her bit of an edge. What makes that advantage slightly bigger is they met as recently as in Palermo, the season’s first competition since resumption and Giorgi beat Yastremska in three sets to make it to the semifinal.

Yastremska’s Inability to Push On Could Be Frustrating
In the initial stages of most tournaments she has played this season, Yastremska has looked solid and at times, even a player who could go on to win the title. And then out of nowhere, she has lost.
In four of those defeats this year, Yastremska had gone into the match as a favourite and that makes it even more puzzling.
Take the example of the Palermo Open where Yastremska absolutely dispatched both her first two opponents, without dropping a set. Then, up against Giorgi, she was 1/3 to make it to the semifinal and while she fought hard, Yastremska failed to get her game in order and went down in three.
At the US Open, it was worse. Up against Madison Brengle in the second round, Yastremska was 1/5 to win it and enter round three. Instead, she was blown away 6-2, 6-3, crashing out that early.
If that’s the trend to follow, she should make it past her opponent given it’s still the first round of the tournament but what she will have to be wary of is it’s Giorgi who is playing at home and on a surface she doesn’t have too many problems with either.

Giorgi Makes First Semifinal of the Year
Before the players went on a pandemic-induced break from the tennis season, Girogi’s best showing came at the Australian Open where she reached the third round. Earlier, having won through three qualifiers, the Italian entered the main draw of the Auckland Open too but was sent packing by Serena Williams.
Since then, however, the results didn’t quite match up to what she would have liked, peaking at a quarterfinal in Lyon.
The return from the break has been a decent one for the Italian wildcard. At Palermo, other than beating Yastremska, she also got past Rebecca Peterson and Kaja Juvan before losing in a hard-fought semifinal to Fiona Ferro. And there were a couple of second round appearances at Prague – where she lost to Elise Mertens – and US Open – where she went down to the eventual winner Naomi Osaka.
She has shown she has the skills to beat her 25th-ranked opponent but can lightning strike twice?
Yastremska v Giorgi Prediction & Tip
We think Yastremska will be better prepared for Giorgi this time around since its an early stage of the tournament and while the Italian might give it her all, the Ukrainian should win. Probably in three sets.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (bet365)
