Anett Kontaveit v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
There have been two previous matches between Kontaveit and Garcia and both have won one apiece. The most recent encounter came at the Stuttgart Open last year on clay and Kontaveit was a 6-4, 6-3 winner in that one.

Kontaveit with Three Solid Performances so Far
Since returning from the break due to the pandemic, Kontaveit has been one of the more consistent players on the circuit. Having begun the post-pandemic season with the Palermo Open, Kontaveit made it to the final there, even starting out as a favourite against Fiona Ferro but was upset in straight sets.
That did not deter her though. Kontaveit quickly adjusted to the hard courts at the Cincinnati Open and US Open, winning three matches in both, before going down to the might of Naomi Osaka. Osaka needed three sets to overcome her in the quarterfinals at the former, while running away 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round of the latter tournament.
Earlier in the season, Kontaveit had shown she could be a handful, especially on hard courts with a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open and topped that with a four-match winning streak at the Fed Cup – where she also defeated Elina Svitolina.
Her overall record on clay is decent too but for a shoddy 2019 where Kontaveit did something similar to this season – she made it to the final at the Stuttgart Open on clay but followed it up by losing three of her next four matches on that surface. The Estonian would like to avoid meeting with the same fate here.

Garcia Needs to Up the Ante
Garcia is just 26 and already has a bundle of WTA title wins under her belt, the last of which came in Nottingham last season. On clay, however, she has won just one of her eight titles and in general this season she hasn’t had the best of results.
Once a world number four, Garcia has now fallen to 50th in the world as a result of those inconsistencies.
Take, for instance, the Istanbul Cup, where Garcia was the fourth seed and one of the favourites in a heavily-diluted field. And yet, she was stretched to three sets by the little-known wild-card entrant Cagla Buyukakcay in the first round and then lost to Tereza Martincova in the second.
In fact in no tournament this year has Garcia won more than two matches, a quarterfinal at the Lyon Open and third round at the US Open being her best showing. Can she turn things around against an in-form Kontaveit.
Kontaveit v Garcia Prediction & Tip
Unless Garcia can win this against the run of play, Kontaveit can be expected to scoop this match and quite easily at that.
Tip: Kontaveit to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
