Vondrousova Finally Wins Two in Two
Vondrousova started off her 2020 with a couple of wins at the Adelaide International before she fell in the quarterfinals of that event to Ash Barty.
More than eight months on, she has finally won two matches in a row yet again on tour.
In her opener here in Rome, Vondrousova defeated Misaki Doi in three sets before crushing Arantxa Rus in straight sets in the second round. This follows a set of results which has seen her crash out in the first or second round of all other tournaments, including the three she played after tennis resumed – the Palermo Open on clay and Cincinnati Open and US Open on hard courts.
The worry for the French Open finalist before this might have been the fact her losses kept coming against players who could barely be called the top ones, many of whom were ranked below her.
Vondrousova now takes on another player ranked 31 places behind her and with her confidence back, she would give herself a good chance of making the last eight.

Hercog Stunner for Bertens
Hercog used the advantage of having played a few more matches than Bertens following the break and sent the fifth seeded packing in straight sets to enter round three at the Italian Open. The Slovenian, whose only previous appearance in the round of 16 at this tournament came in 2011, was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over the world number eight in a match lasting an hour and 36 minutes.
Coming into the match after beating fellow Slovenia Kaja Juvan but on the back of a 22-match run in which she had lost to top 10 players, Hercog said what helped her was her decision to stick to her plans. Plans aside, the execution was brilliant too as she hit 19 winners to just 11 from her opponent, leaving the two-time Rome semifinalist in a lurch.
The world number 50 later also admitted it would be different playing a left-handed Vondrousova, so her tactics might have to change. What would also change if she wins this match is it would be her first entry into the quarterfinal at not just the Italian Open but all Premier events combined.
A huge moment alright for the Slovenian but can she actually deliver against a player who knows her way around on clay?
Vondrousova v HercogPrediction & Tip
Vondrousova is the favourite but not by much as she starts at 8/11 to win this. Backing her to scoop this despite Hercog’s good run so far.
Tip: Vondrousova to win: 8/11 (bet365)
