Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

This will be the second match between Auger-Aliassime and Bublik with the Canadian 21st-ranked player having won the first one at the 2019 Shanghai Masters.

Auger-Aliassime Getting Back into Rhythm

A straight-set win for Auger-Aliassime brought up his first on clay this season after he had made a woeful start earlier in Rome.

Playing against Filip Krajinovic at the Italian Open, Auger-Aliassime went down in straight sets and some of it could be put down to rustiness. After all, Auger-Aliassime isn’t one to to trifled with on clay, having reached the final of two tournaments on red dirt in 2019, including the Rio Open and the Lyon Open.

Three of Auger-Aliassime’s four Challenger level title wins have also come on clay.

Which is why he started off as a favourite in the opening round match against Lorenzo Sonego, and played like. He was stretched in the second but would be glad for that workout as he awaits some of the sterner tests in his Roland-Garros tune-up.

What’s interesting to note is Auger-Aliassime has never featured in the main draw of the French Open before this season. A solid result here in Hamburg would go a long way in making this a memorable main draw debut.

Bublik Stuns Albert Ramos-Vinolas

After making it to the main draw of the Hamburg Open as a lucky loser, not too many gave him a chance to make the second round of the tournament. That, at the expense of a clay court specialist in the form of Albert Ramos-Vinolas would have been a boost to his confidence.

What made it even more special was the ease with which Bublik won the encounter, taking it 6-2, 7-6 to proceed to round two.

Bublik will be doubly satisfied with his result after his previous two attempts on clay this season had resulted in first round losses. It started at Kitzbuhel where he lost to qualifier Yannick Hanfmann before he was drawn to take on Marin Cilic in his opener at Rome.

The Kazakh took a set lead over Cilic but faded away gently in the rest of the match.

It’s only going to get tougher here against Auger-Aliassime but a fighting spirit could help him believe he has a chance at Roland-Garros.

Auger-Aliassime v Bublik Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime should win this and if he can get into some sort of an early rhythm it could well be a straight-setter too.

Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
