After making it to the quarterfinal at Rome but looking off-colour in that last-eight encounter against Marketa Vondrousova, Svitolina would have been a touch nervous starting out at Strasbourg. Especially because she was up against a tricky opponent in Magda Linette.
Svitolina, however, was quick off the blocks, breaking her opponent in the third game of the opening set, but then lost serve soon after. A further couple of breaks of serves occurred in the opening set before Linette stretched it to the tie-breaker but Svitolina proved to be too powerful as she ran off to a 7-0 win.
Linette looked to have found a solution to overcome her second serve woes in the second set as she raced off to a 4-1 lead with two breaks of serve. Svitolina broke back once but Linette had her chance to serve out the set at 5-4.
The Pole missed a set point, and was broken, before losing the next two games and the match 7-6, 7-5.
Svitolina will look to overcome her first serve issues, with only 58% of the serves going through, while she won just 57% of those points only.

Teichmann Continues Good Form
Having overcome Amanda Anisimova in the first round of this tournament at Strasbourg, Teichmann continued her winning streak with a straight-set victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She won with a similar scoreline to Svitolina, 7-6, 7-5.
In a match of swinging fortunes, Teichmann had the early break of serve but was broken back before Pavlyuchenkova broke her to love in the 11th game to serve for the set. It was not to be and the match headed into a tie-breaker in which Teichmann overcame a 2-0 deficit to win seven of the next eight points and the set.
The pattern followed in the second set too when Teichmann got the first break of serve but was broken soon after, and then Pavlyuchenkova had the chance to serve out the set at 5-3 but lost her service. With the momentum back Teichmann won four games in a row to complete the win.
Teichmann will now face a hard test in Svitolina but the Lexington Open finalist and two-time WTA title winner on clay possesses the game to upset her opponent’s apple-cart.
Svitolina v Teichmann Prediction & Tip
No surprises that the world number five Svitolina starts off as a favourite against a player ranked outside the top 50 but only just – she is 8/11 to win this. While Teichmann’s recent form is excellent, those are delicious odds for a Svitolina win and we will go with that.
