Garin Clay Run Continues to Impress

With a win-loss record of 12-2 on clay this season, Garin has been at his imperious best. The 12th of those wins came against the Kitzbuhel Open runnerup Yannick Hanfmann, who himself had been looking good, having improved his ranking drastically in recent times.

Garin, however, was off to a quick start as he broke Hanfmann twice in the first set and then absorbed some late pressure to complete a 6-2, 7-6 victory. In the second set, in fact, an early break of serve saw Garin race off to a 5-2 lead before losing four games in a row to face Hanfmann serving for the match.

The Chilean broke back, took the set into a tie-breaker and then completed an easy win there to march into the quarterfinals.

Earlier this year, Garin had won ATP titles in Cordoba and Rio de Janeiro but strangely started off rather slowly at the Rome Masters as he fell to Borna Coric in straight sets in the first set.

He now takes on the 23-year-old Bublik who is looking to climb back up the rankings.

Lucky Loser Bublik Shocks Felix

One moment you are on your way back home – or in case of Bublik probably to Paris for the French Open – and at the very next, you are about to play a quarterfinal of an ATP competition. That’s how it has gone for Bublik who had all but bowed out of the qualifiers in Hamburg.

And then he made it through to the main draw as a lucky loser. In the first round, he shocked Albert Ramos-Vinolas but that was nothing in comparison with what transpired in the second.

Going into the match as a rank outsider at 7/2 against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, Bublik romped to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the world number 21. And that came after a rather slow start which saw Bublik getting broken on love in his very first service game before he clawed back to level at 3-3 and use the third of his break-points in the ninth game to win another break.

Bublik served out the set and then raced away to a break in the very first game of the second set as well, before carrying his form throughout the second set to complete the win.

Garin v Bublik Prediction and Tip

Garin will start off as a favourite, with a good chance to take it in straight sets. That said, Bublik’s strong showing against Auger-Aliassime could make things slightly interesting.

Tip: Garin to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
