Grigor Dimitrov v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head
There two have met once before, in the second round in Montpellier in February of this year. On that occasion, Barrere pulled off a surprise win, coming from a set down to claim victory.

Dimitrov Trying to Shrug Off Physical Issues
Dimitrov is still counting the cost of his participation in the Adri Tour, having contracted Covid-19 whilst playing in Croatia.
That forced him to stay at home fora month during which time he had problems breathing, lost his sense of taste and smell, and also suffered weight loss.
He is glad to be able to compete again, but the illness has left mental as well as physical scars.
Since he returned to competitive action, he made the second round stage of both the Cincinnati Open and the US Open, and last week reached the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters, before losing to the Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
Roland Garros is his least favourite major – at least judging by results. He has never been beyond the third round here, whereas he has been a semi-finalist in all the other Grand Slam events. How he changes that here will be interesting to watch given the signs of some old sparkle in recent times from him.

Barrere Playing for Just the Third Time in Paris
This is the third time that Barrere will play in his home Grand Slam, He was given a wildcard in 2018, and was two sets up in his first-round match, but then lost it.
Last year he went one better and reached the second round, and he has since reached the same stage in all the other majors, although he has yet to go further.
He has never won a senior ATP event, but he has enjoyed some success on the junior circuit, where he has won nine tournaments, four of them on clay, although the most recent of those came two years ago on home soil in Angers.
Prior to lockdown, his greatest success in 2020 came in that event in Montpellier, where he beat Dimitrov en route to the third round, before he was beaten by the Serb Filip Krajinovic.
Since then he failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Open, and was beaten in the first round in New York by the Russian Andrey Rublev.
Having not played in Rome either, Barrere will have to shrug off some rustiness going into the opener here in Paris.
Dimitrov v Barrere Prediction and Tip
Despite the fact that Barrere won their previous encounter earlier this year, lightening is unlikely to strike twice. Dimitrov may not particularly like playing in Paris, but he has much more experience than his opponent.
Tip: Dimitrov to win in four sets: 2/1 (bet365)
