Berrettini Looking to Improve French Open Record

A two-time clay court tournament winner on the tour, Berrettini is yet to set the French Open alight with his performances. In the two editions of the competition he has featured in so far, the Italian has reached the third round as his best showing, and coming on the back of what he did last season on red dirt, it would have come as a huge surprise.

Having won the 2019 Budapest Open and then made all the way to the final in Munich, Berrettini was one of the players to watch out at the French Open last year. Unfortunately for him, he fell away in straight sets to Casper Ruud, who at that stage was only finding his feet.

This year, Berrettini hasn’t played too much on clay. He participated at the Thiem’s 7 Invitational competition where he won three of the five matches he played in, and then participated in the Rome Masters. And much like the previous season, Berrettini fell in the third match he played – he had a bye in round one this year unlike last, so was able to make it to the quarterfinals.

The interesting bit? It was Ruud again who sent him packing.

At least in the first round, he isn’t facing Ruud but the Canadian 30-year-old Posipil.

Pospisil’s Not Played on Clay. In a While.

It’s bit of a surprise Pospisil has opted to feature on clay this season having last played a match on this surface in 2018. That, however, isn’t the most surprising fact. It’s the following.

The Canadian is yet to win a main draw ATP tournament encounter on clay. In his career.

Yep that’s correct. He has registered a few on the Futures tour and Challengers but in all the competitions he has played at the ATP level, Pospisil has won nothing.

That, added to the fact he is playing his first match on clay in two years, makes it quite obvious how this match can be expected to go. And that’s also why those odds for the two players.

Berrettini v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Berrettini is 1/10 to win this match and very frankly for the kind of opponent he has in front of him, those are worth taking a shot at. You could also look at a straight-set win for Berrettini in this one.

Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
