Alex de Minaur v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
The pair have met four times before, and although de Minaur leads their head to head series by three matches to one, two of those victories came on the grass of Wimbledon, and the other on the hard courts of Cincinnati. In their only match ion clay at the Rome Masters last year, it was Cecchinato who won in three sets.

De Minaur, a US Open Quarter Finalist
De Minaur comes into this event buoyed by his exploits in New York, where he reached the quarter-final of a Grand Slam for the first time in his comparatively young career, before losing to Alexander Zverev.
The current Australian number one, who is coached by former Grand Slam winner Lleyton Hewitt, de Minaur has only ever been beyond the first round in Paris once, and that was last year when he got to the second round before losing to Pablo Carreno-Busta, the same man with whom he won the Cincinnati doubles last month.
Although he won three ATP finals last year, and appeared in another final – he was beaten by Roger Federer in the Swiss Open – all of his six finals to date have been on hard courts.
Even in his junior days, clay was his least favourite surface, which should make this an interesting contest.

Cecchinato is a French Open Semi-Finalist from 2018
Cecchinato is a clay court specialist, who, two years ago, pulled off a major surprise by reaching the semi-finals in Paris.
Beginning the tournament ranked 72 in the world, he beat a succession of higher ranked players, and then overcame Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals before his run was ended by Dominic Thiem.
All that came two years after he was banned from the sport for 15 months by the Italian federation for match-fixing and illegal betting. He successfully appealed the sanction on the grounds that the statute of limitations had run out but later admitted that he had told a bookmaker about his poor physical condition before a match.
He has won three ATP senior titles, two in 2018 – the Hungarian Open and the Croatia Open, and followed that up last year with the Argentina Open, when he thrashed Diego Schwartzmann in the final for the loss of just three games.
The Italian Open also made the second round in Rome, but was still forced to qualify here, beating first Ernests Gulbis of Latvia and then Constantin Lestienne of France, both in straight sets, to get to this stage.
De Minaur v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip
This is a tough draw for de Minaur to see himself pitted against a clay court specialist like Cecchinato. The Italian may had had to qualify for the main draw but he won their own previous meeting on clay, and may do so again.
Tip: Cecchinnato to win: 8/11 (bet365)
