Stefanos Tsitsipas v Cristian Garin Head to Head

Interestingly, their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit and in that 2018 match played on hard court, Garin had defeated Tsitsipas in straight sets.

Tsitsipas Too Hot to Handle for Lajovic

The kind of form Dusan Lajovic has been in, it wasn’t too remiss of us to expect him to test Tsitsipas and even win a set off him. That the Greek world number six didn’t allow Lajovic to win one is a testimony of how well Tsitsipas has adapted to clay following an opening loss at the hands of Jannik Sinner in Rome.

Tsitsipas was taken to a tie-breaker in the first set where he trailed 3-5 before rattling off the next four points to clinch the set. And things became a lot easier for him in the second as he raced off to a 5-1 lead and would have wrapped up the match there itself when he had a couple of match-points.

Lajovic held on but he was only extending the inevitable as Tsitsipas completed a 7-6, 6-2 win.

This followed a couple of other straight-set wins in the first couple of rounds, beating Dan Evans and Pablo Cuevas to set up this Lajovic meeting. It would be the win over the Serb, however, that would give him the most satisfaction given the latter’s showing in Rome where he made round three.

Tsitsipas now faces the world number 22 Garin.

Garin Makes it 13-2 on Clay This Season

Two titles on clay and an overall record of 13-2 on this surface this year for Cristian Garin makes him one of the toughest players to face at any stage of the competition. And while Alexander Bublik had a chance to test him out when he won the first set of their quarterfinal, Garin came through in three sets.

Garin faced eight break-points in the entire match but was broken just twice, helping him come back in the final two sets.

Earlier in the tournament, Garin had gotten the better of Kei Nishikori and Yannick Hanfmann but his biggest test of the season comes now when he takes on Tsitipas. And we don’t say that lightly given Garin has already won the titles at the Cordoba Open and Rio Open this season.

A five-time finalist on the ATP circuit, Garin will be gunning for his sixth shot at a title with a confident Tsitsipas facing up to him.

Tsitsipas v Garin Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas starts off 4/11 to win this and while Garin’s form on clay cannot be overlooked, the Greek world number six has shown enough confidence all tournament to suggest he would be coming through here.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 4/11 (bet365)
