Hubert Hurkacz v Tennys Sandgren Head to Head
This will be only the second meeting between the pair. The only previous occasion on which the two players met was back in the 2018 French Open. On that occasion, Hurkacz prevailed in four sets.

Hurkacz Struggling for Consistency This Season
The 23-year-old from Poland has really struggled to put a string of consistent results this season. Until his third-round run last week at Rome, he had failed to win more than one main draw matches at any of his previous seven tournaments. Five of those seven losses were against lower-ranked opponents which makes it even worse.
But prior to this inconsistent run, his start to the new season was rather impressive. He won all three of his matches at the season-opening ATP Cup.
That was followed with his best showing of this season by reaching the last four at the Auckland Open. Hurkacz even reached his career best ranking of 28 soon after that. At the time he would have surely harboured the thoughts of breaking into the top 20 this season.
And with a weakened line up at most of the tournaments since the season resumed after the pandemic break, he had the ideal opportunity to achieve it as well.
Now he will be hoping to improve his record at the French Open where the best he has done is to reach the second round back in 2018.

Sandgren Looking for Maiden Win at Roland Garros
The last time that the American won a main draw match at a clay-court ATP event was at Geneva back in 2018. On that occasion, he reached the quarter-finals of the tournament and had just reached the finals a few weeks earlier at Houston.
But since then his record on the clay court whilst playing ATP events has been below average. Since then he has played five main draw matches on clay courts and has failed to win any of them.
This is a bit surprising considering his record on the surface at the lower events.
During the time where he has struggled on the ATP events, he has won one title, reached another final and a semi-final on the same surface on the challenger level. So the issue for Sangren looks like lack of confidence rather than the ability on the red soil.
But Sandgren has shown in the last year that he has the mettle to perform on the big stage. In fact, prior to the US Open earlier this month, the previous three Grand Slams he has played, he went on to achieve his personal best run at the tournament.
He reached the fourth round at the Wimbledon and the third round at the US Open and the last eight at the Australian Open this year.
Sandgren is currently ranked 48th in the world and is the fifth highest-ranked American on the tour. A strong run in Paris will see him close in on his career-best ranking at 41 and also push him closer to being the highest-ranked player from his country.
Hubert Hurkacz v Tennys Sandgren Prediction and Tip
Hurkacz will start this match as a strong favourite. Sandgren has shown time and again that when it comes to playing clay on big occasions, he struggles. And despite his struggles, Hurkacz has enough quality to see of the American.
Tip: Hurkacz to win in four sets: 13/5 (bet365)
