Basilashvili Still Looking for a Win Since Season Resumed
The Georgian is going through a terrible loss of form at the moment. Since the season resumed after the pandemic break he has played five matches, losing all of them.
Three of these matches have been on the clay courts, a surface which Basilashvili enjoys and has won two ATP titles on. The extent to how badly out of form the Georgian is reflected by the fact that he has only won one set during these five matches.
Even though the Georgian has had decent success on the surface, his game depends a lot on driving through the shots without a lot of spin.
This can mean that experienced clay-court players use this to draw him into making more errors and if his game is slightly off on the day, he is in trouble.
Basilashivili was on a similar sort of a free-fall last season as well. But he turned things around at the Hamburg Open and his campaign post that was much better.
After his title at Hamburg, he went on to reach the round of 16 at the Montreal Masters, Shanghai Masters and the US Open. He will be hoping that a strong run at the French Open will act as a similar springboard this season.

Monteiro Coming off a Final Loss at the Forli Challenger
The 26-year-old is a clay-court specialist who has played almost 80% of his career matches on the surface. Even though most of the matches he has played has been on the ITF and Challenger circuits, he has had some notable results on the tour in the last couple of seasons.
Most notable of which was in Munich last year. The Brazilian reached the round of 16 after starting out from the qualifiers. During this run, he beat three higher-ranked opponents including, Andrey Rublev and Jan-Lennard Struff.
Last week at the Forli Challenger he reached the finals after starting out from the qualification stage. Even though all the opponents he won against were lower than him in the rankings, this run would have given him immense confidence.
Even though this will be his sixth straight Grand Slam appearance, he has failed to win any of the previous five first-round matches.
He would be hoping to finally end this run and progress to the second round. If he does reach the second round, he will match his best-ever showing at in Paris that he received back in 2017.
Nikoloz Basilashvili v Thiago Monteiro Prediction and Tip
This is an ideal match for the Georgian to end his winless run. Even though Monteiro was impressive in Forli Challenger, his record in the big events is rather poor. Basilashvili will have to minimise his errors in this match. And if he manages to do that he could turn things around in this one.
Tip: Basilashvili to win: 11/5 (bet365)
