This will be their second meeting with Bogdan having defeated Kenin the first time they had met at the Montreal qualifiers in 2018.

Kenin Needs Three Sets in Opener

It’s not been the best of lead-ups to the French Open and the rustiness on clay showed up for Kenin when she was stretched to three sets in her first round by Luidmilla Samsonova.

It didn’t seem like that for starters as Kenin broke Samsonova in the first game and while her opponent soon broke back and there was an another exchange of breaks to bring them to 3-3, the Australian Open champion got herself a decisive break in the ninth game before serving it out next.

The second set was a shocker though and turned out to be one-way traffic as Samsonova came roaring back with an early break that took her to 3-0 and she repeated the dose to make it 5-1.

The match soon levelled, Kenin needed to find herself an extra gear, instead when she dropped serve in the very first game of the set, the tide looked to have turned and how. Kenin wasn’t done though, she broke back and levelled things out at 2-2, and then made it two breaks in the eighth game before serving it out to win it in three.

A wry shake of the wrist at the end of the match from Kenin spoke a lot about what she thought of the result, but more importantly of her performance – she would know she will have to do a lot better than this to go deeper.

Bogdan’s Barely Played Since March

Bogdan is one the many Romanians in the women’s singles draw but is one who has barely played all season. Like most her tennis was affected by the pandemic break but unlike many others, she opted not to feature in any of the exhibition tennis tournaments during the break.

Even on return, Bogdan played at just the WTA Prague in the first half of August, made the quarterfinal before retiring from her match against Kristyna Pliskova. She was leading her opponent 5-2 at the moment but a left foot issue meant she had to withdraw from it.

While there might have been doubts about her participating in the French Open, having not played any tennis since then, Bogdan has come back smartly to crush Timea Babos in straight sets in the first round here.

This is only the second time the 27-year-old Bogdan has made it to the second round at Roland-Garros and having never gotten past this stage, she has a huge incentive to come out fighting tooth and nail.

Kenin v Bogdan Prediction and Tip

While Kenin is the favourite here, 4/9 in her favour, Bodan will know she has a chance in this one. Kenin’s form on clay hasn’t been the greatest and the scars of the 6-0, 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Victoria Azarenka will be at the back of her mind still.

Tip: Ana Bogdan to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (bet365)
