Lorenzo Musetti v Andrea Pellegrino Head to Head
At the ATP level, this will be the first time these two players will be facing off. They have, however, played in three previous matches at the Futures and Challengers level, with Pellegrino leading 2-1. All three matches came in 2019 and on clay, so that gives a fair idea of where they stand at the moment.

Musetti Continuing to Fly
Having played most of his tennis at the Challenger level in recent times, the 18-year-old Musetti exploded into the eyes of the world at the Rome Masters last month.
There, he won three matches to make the main draw before registering one of the biggest shocks of the post-pandemic break as he cruised through former French Open winner Stan Wawrinka 6-0, 7-6. Musetti then defeated Kei Nishikori in the second, another top player, before bowing out in the third.
Not too long after that, Musetti went back to featuring at a Challenger competition, in Forli, and won his first ever title there. En route, there were wins over Frances Tiafoe, Andreas Seppi and Thiago Monteiro too.
As a result of that run – and a few other solid showings at the Challenger level before that – Musetti has jumped from a season-low of 364th in the world to 143rd at the moment. In the first round here in Sardinia, Musetti surprised the eighth seeded Pablo Cuevas, but on second thoughts it seems anything but a surprise given how quickly he has climbed up the ladder.

Pellegrino Comes Back to Stun Travaglia
Qualifier Pellegrino had made the main draw of this clay court competition on the back of a couple of tough qualifying wins. In the first round itself, the Italian had to get past Thiago Seyboth Wild, a Brazilian, who had only a few months ago won the Santiago Open on the same surface.
And then in the opening round of the main draw of this competition in Sardinia, Pellegrino showed his fighting capabilities when he came back from a set and 2-5 down in the second to turn things around, and win the second set in a tie-breaker. And while Travaglia retired in the third set after being down 3-0 in the third, Pellegrino would take a lot of confidence from his results in this tournament so far.
Earlier in Forli, the Challenger tournament Musetti had won, Pellegrino was a losing semifinalist, going down to the eventual runner-up, Monteiro. It was his best showing of the season which had begun on hard and indoor hard courts on a five-match losing streak.
Musetti v Pellegrino Prediction and Tip
Musetti, despite being all of 18 years of age, is a huge favourite here, starting out at 2/9 to win this second round match here. We also reckon Pellegrino’s recent confidence will help him and we could see a three-setter as a result.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1 (bet365)
