This will be their second meeting. In the first, which came in a Davis Cup match last year, the 13th-ranked Bautista-Agut overcame Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime Shrugs off Early Break v Albot

Radu Albot was never going to challenge the Canadian too much but when he went a break up in their quarter-final, one would have hoped for some sort of a fight.

Instead, it looked like it had only spurred Auger-Aliassime even more, as he broke back very next game and then doubled that by overcoming the Albot serve in the eighth game of the opening set to complete a set win.

And then, in the second set, Auger-Aliassime fed off that positive energy to break his opponent thrice off the four break-points he got all set. In the end, Auger-Aliassime won 6-3, 6-0 to seal his semifinal berth. With that win, Auger-Aliassime improved his record this year to 20-14, adding on to his fine showings at two other indoor hard court tournaments this season – the Rotterdam Open and Marseille Open.

His big test now comes against a player who endured a tough first couple of sets before romping home to a bagel in the final set.

Bautista-Agut Bagels After Dropping a Set

After spending nearly an hour apiece for the first two sets of his match, Bautista-Agut raced away to bagel Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in his quarterfinal match. In all he was on the court for two hours and 30 minutes and it could have been a lot more than that had his opponent showed eve a small fraction of fighting ability he had in the first couple of sets.

Instead, after having overcome a broken serve in the first set, only to lose it in the tie-breaker, Hurkacz stormed back with a solid second set showing. He held on to his serve and even had a chance to break his opponent in the second set before scooping it on his fifth break-point of the 11th game of the set.

And just when Bautista-Agut would have begun to get worried, he came back strongly in the third set to break his opponent on three separate occasions to complete a three-set win, 7-6, 5-7, 6-0.

Bautista-Agut, who earlier had a first round bye, then defeated Gilles Simon in the second round in straight sets. His win over Hurkacz made it it his second win in a row and since the Australian Open, this is only the second time he will make it three wins in a row this year.

If he makes it, that is.

Bautista-Agut v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

Bautista-Agut is a favourite here but the youngster Ager-Aliassime could make life miserable for Raonic. Not expecting an easy win for Bautista-Agut, but a win all the same.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
