Brady Done with Clay

Brady’s season had been going great guns but a first round defeat at the French Open might not have come as a big surprise for too many people. She has never has been comfortable playing on red dirt and a first round defeat followed her call to not feature in any practice tournaments in its lead-up.

Then again, after the kind of year Brady has had in 2020, it shouldn’t have mattered too much.

In two of the three tournaments on hard courts, at Lexington and US Open, Brady made it deep. At the former, she lifted her maiden trophy, beating Cori Gauff and Jil Teichmann while at the latter, she made it to her first ever semifinal at a Grand Slam before putting Naomi Osaka through the grinder only to go down in three sets.

Indoors, however, Brady hasn’t played too much. Earlier this year, she participated in the St. Petersburg Open where she went down in the first round and in 2019 she lost a close second round encounter at Limoges.

Given her form though, Brady can be expected to correct that record and soon.

Disappointing Post-Pandemic Season for Yastremska

When Yastremska made it to the final at the Adelaide International earlier this year, it looked like the start to a season to remember for the Kazakh. That, unfortunately, has turned out to be her best performance all year.

The best she has done since is win a couple of matches in a tournament, which to be honest has happened in three of the tournaments and each time it has looked like she could go the distance. It’s not materialised for her.

At the Cincinnati Open, for instance, she lost 6-3, 6-1 to Naomi Osaka. At Rome she was beaten by Simona Halep.

And at the US Open where she faced Madison Brengle in the second round, Yastremska managed to win just five games in total.

Last year, Yastremska had played in a couple of tournaments indoors, at Moscow and at the WTA Elite Trophy and each time lost in the second round. This time around she is up against an in-form player and will be fighting to even get to round two.

Brady v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Brady is 4/6 to win this as compared to Yastremska’s 11/10 to clinch this round. This could go the distance one way or the other, with the rustiness for both evening things out even more.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
