Félix Auger-Aliassime v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two players.

Félix Auger-Aliassime brings a 2-0 head-to-head advantage coming into this match. Their most recent head-to-head was in the 2020 Open 13 in February, where Auger-Aliassime won in straight sets en route to the final. Their other meeting came in the 2018 Tashkent Challenger, with Auger-Aliassime winning that meeting in straight sets as well.

Additionally, both their meetings have been on hard courts, with their most recent one in the Open 13 being on an indoor hard court.

Auger-Aliassime Looking to Put Finals Misery Behind Him

Félix Auger-Aliassime was unlucky for the third time in a final this year, this time in the Cologne Open against tournament favorite Alexander Zverev. Such a loss must have hurt for someone who’s made it to six ATP finals and lost all of them.

But Auger-Aliassime can rally in the fact that his form has been good enough to take him to those finals, and he’s adept at picking himself up after each final and starting over. He did so after losing the Rotterdam Open; he picked himself up and immediately showed title-winning form in the next tournament, this time in the Open 13 where he made all the way to back to back finals.

He can also be buoyed by the fact that his final losses are to tournament favorites. Additionally, each final that he’s lost this year he had entered the match as the underdog; in Rotterdam to Gael Monfils, in Marseille to Stefanos Tsitsipas, and recently in Cologne to Alexander Zverev.

Therefore he’ll be looking to rally once more in this tournament, something that someone in his position should be accustomed to by now.

He comes in with some great recent form, especially on hard and indoor hard courts, and against a lowly ranked Egor Gerasimov, the tie only points to one direction.

Gerasimov Seeking to Stabilize His Form

87th ranked Egor Gerasimov shares the same story with many other tennis players: he had some good form early in the year but has barely been able to stabilize his results and form after the tennis Covid 19 hiatus.

Early on in the year, he had reached the final of the Maharashtra Open, and the quarters in the Open 13; he lost to Auger-Aliassime in that quarterfinal so he may be seeking revenge for that one.

But since then he failed to qualify for several tournaments, and in the ones that he did qualify for, his best so far has been a second-round berth in the Us Open.

He did, however, put on a great display against German Daniel Altmaier in his first-round match, a match that he won in a romping 6-0 6-1. If he wants to get something out of Auger-Aliassime, he may have to put on a similar or even greater performance on Wednesday.

Auger-Aliassime v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

With Auger-Aliassime looking for an immediate bounce back, he’ll be keen on putting on a great display. If he matches the form that he showed in Cologne last week, then there’s no reason to doubt that he’ll do it within the fewest sets possible.

Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
