Taylor Fritz v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

This will be the second time that the pair will face each other in a competitive match. They earlier met at the Cincinnati Masters a couple of months ago where the American won in straight sets.

First Straight Sets Win for Fritz in Two Months

It has been a hugely inconsistent season for the 22-year-old American. He has shown time and again with his performances that he has it in him to break into the top 20 and why he is thought of so highly by many.

But he has also suffered from many disappointing early-round exits as well. Its a reflection of his struggles that his first-round win over Reilly Opelka was the first occasion in the last two months that he had won a match in straight sets. Interestingly enough, the last time that had happened was against his second-round opponent, Harris.

Fritz had a rather impressive start to the campaign with a third-round appearance at the Australian Open followed by reaching the final at Acapulco.

In Acapulco, he beat likes of Kyle Edmund, John Isner and Ugo Humbert along the way. But he has not been able to show similar kind form in the second half of the season. He did make it to the third rounds at the US Open & the Roland Garros. But also suffered four opening round defeats in the same period.

His first-round win was his first this year on the indoor hard courts. He was really aggressive from the start and did not allow Opelka to settle. He looked more and more confident as the tie went on to win eight out of the last nine games in the match.

Harris Has Won Seven Out of the Last Eight Matches

The South African has had an excellent season so far with multiple impressive runs. He began the season by reaching the final at the Adelaide Open after starting from the qualifying stages. For someone who has won 16 titles at the lower levels, he was just one match away from winning his maiden ATP title. But he eventually lost to Andrey Rublev in straight sets.

And since the season resumed after the pandemic break, his performances have gone up a notch further. He reached the semi-finals at the Forli CHallanger and last week made it to the last eight at Cologne. He even took a set off Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final before going down. But his lack of results in the Grand Slams has restricted a big rise in his rankings. He started the season ranked 99th, just nine places lower than his current ranking.

But he will fancy his chances this week and try to replicate the runs he achieved at Adelaide and Cologne. He has played three matches so far including two qualifying rounds and is yet to drop a set. And he also has a very impressive 8-3 record in indoor hard courts this year as well.

Taylor Fritz v Lloyd Harris Prediction and Tip

Even though Fritz will start the match as the favourite, Harris will give him a tough fight. The South African is playing some really good tennis at the moment and the conditions suit him more than the American.

Tip: Fritz to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
