Borna Ćorić v Taylor Harry Fritz Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players.

Borna Ćorić has won all three of their previous meetings. He did so in the 2019 Libema Open on a grass court, in 2018 in The Indian Wells Masters on a hard court, and in the 2016 French Open on a clay court.

Ćorić To Carry St. Petersburg Open Momentum

24th ranked Borna Ćorić recently reached his first final of the year—his seventh in total—in the St. Petersburg Open. He lost to a sturdy Andrey Rublev in straight sets but gave the Russian a good contest in the process.

He was even 5-2 ahead at one point in the tie-break, but Rublev covered his baseline well and concentrated his attack on Coric’s forehand to force six errors from the Croatian, which gave him the first set, before relying on a crucial break point to win the second set 6-4.

That run signaled a steady return to form following a quarterfinal berth in the US Open, his best finish in a Grand Slam. Though he’d suffered first and second-round elimination between those tournaments in the French Open and the Italian Open, but his preference most recently seems to be on hard courts and not clay.

And the Croatian will hopefully want to challenge for top honors once again. It’s been an up-and-down ride for him ever since he won the Halle Open in 2018, that being his most recent title.

He had to struggle with injuries in the following year and had a mixed start to the 2020 ATP tour.

He will now want to capitalize on some recent good form, and maybe replicate the run that saw him reach the final in St. Petersburg.

Fritz in a Slump of His Own

Taylor Harry Fritz had a good start to the year. He reached his first ATP 500 final in the Mexican Open, on the way bettering seeds like John Isner and only lost to a seasoned and finessed Rafael Nadal in the final. That run in Acapulco even propelled him to a career-high ranking of number 24.

Since then, however, his form has been patchy at best, especially after professional tennis returned post hiatus.

He may have made it into the third round of both the US Open and the French Open, the furthest that he’s ever gone in any Grand Slam competition, but first-round defeats in the Italian, St. Petersburg, and Hamburg European open—all to opponents he was expected to defeat—plus a recent second-round elimination in Antwerp have thrown a major shadow of doubt over his current form.

And up against Ćorić, that form looks like it may be the cause of his eventual downfall.

Ćorić v Fritz Prediction and Tip

Ćorić’s recent form should help him in this fixture. Add to that his unbeaten head to head against the American, and it all seems like Fritz’s slump of form will continue for at least one tournament more.

Tip: Borna Ćorić to win: 8/13 (bet365)
