Novak Djokovic v Borna Coric Head to Head
These two have played each other thrice on the tour and once in an exhibition match during the pandemic break and Djokovic has swept past Coric all four times. Coric is yet to win a set against Djokovic in a head to head which includes wins at the Madrid Masters in 2016, Monte-Carlo and Shanghai Masters in 2018 and the Adria Tour earlier this year.

Djokovic Wins Straight-Set Tussle
Filip Krajinovic, a fellow Serb, has troubled Djokovic in the past and that’s exactly how the world number one’s match went this time around too, despite a straight-set. At least in the first set, Krajinovic had his chances but Djokovic’s fighting qualities came to the fore yet again as he came back from a break down in the opening set to complete a 7-6, 6-3 victory.
Djokovic looked to have gained control over the encounter when he raced off to a 3-1 lead in the opening by breaking his opponent in the fourth game but Krajinovic levelled things off with successive games. This was followed by another break of serve for Krajinovic in the eighth game, leaving him to serve for the set very soon.
The French Open finalist, however, broke back on 15 and then overcame a 5-3 deficit in the tie-breaker as well take a 1-0 lead.
The second set was more straightforward than this though for Djokovic. This time around, when he broke his opponent, he didn’t allow Krajinovic to come back into the encounter, and then crushed his hopes while he served to stay in the match at 3-5.
With this 38th win on the tour this season to just two defeats Djokovic has time and again shown how improbable it is to usurp him in this kind of form and that job will now lie on Coric’s shoulders. Djokovic should not have a lot of problems though.

Coric Lives up to His Favourite Billing
The Croatian Coric was a heavy favourite going into his opening round match against American Taylor Fritz and a break in each of the two sets ensured an easy, 6-4, 6-4 win for him.
Having come into this match on the back of some solid form at the St. Petersburg Open, Coric lifted his game at the most opportune of moments in both sets to go past Fritz.
The first set went on serve till the ninth game where Coric overturned five game-points for his opponent to break Fritz before serving it out. The second fell within the same pattern as Fritz failed to win the ninth game despite holding a game-point there on his own serve before Coric completed the straight-set win.
Coric had earlier defeated Reilly Opelka and Milos Raonic in the St. Petersburg Open to make it to the final where he fought valiantly but came short of Andrey Rublev. Can he surprise Djokovic win his form?
Djokovic v Coric Prediction and Tip
A Djokovic win continues to be an easy call but will the match be as straightforward as his previous ones? We think Coric might be able to push Djokovic enough to ensure it’s not that straightforward, taking the confidence from his previous tournament in Russia into this.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 1/1 (bet365)
