Yoshihito Nishioka v Pablo Andujar Head to Head
The pair have never met each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two.

Nishioka Struck Form in Cologne
The 25-year-old did not have the best of times since the season had resumed post the pandemic break. He crashed out in the first round of the US Open in his first match back. And that was a hard-fought five-setter against Andy Murray but what followed was a terrible run in the clay-court season. He took part in four tournaments and ended up losing four of them.
And the fast indoor courts at Cologne came just about the right time for him. The Japanese youngster enjoyed the extra pace on offer and could bring his quick movements into the game a lot more. He reached the quarter-finals after beating two opponents higher than him in the ranking.
In the first round, he was up against Kyle Edmund from Great Britain. And in the next round, he faced Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany.
Despite the straight-sets loss to Felix Auger-Alliassime in the quarter-finals, his overall gameplay was much improved. He looked much more confident and would be hoping to continue his impressive run in Paris as well. He is currently 51 in the world just three spots behind his career-best.
And considering the fact that he crashed out in this tournament in the first round last year gives him a great chance to achieve a new career-best this week itself.

Andujar 1-4 in Last Five Matches
The 34-year-old Spaniard has had a mixed set of results over the last couple of months. On one hand, his form has been impressive on the lower level challenger tournaments but he has not been able to replicate the same when stepping up to the ATP tour.
At the start of the clay-court season, he won the Prostejov Challenger and made it to the last four at Lasi Challenger. And he was looking set to take that form into the French Open.
But since then he has lost all the rhythm and momentum he had in September. He crashed out in the first round at Roland Garros and followed it up with a second-round exit at Sardinia. He lost both of his matches at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown and once again looked out of sorts last week at Antwerp.
Being a clay-court specialist, the fast indoor courts aren’t something that he enjoys a lot. Andujar has a below-average 28-42 record on the surface and will need some fortune to be able to trouble the Japanese here.
Nishioka v Andujar Prediction and Tip
This should be a comfortable win for Nishioka. He is in good form at the moment and the conditions suit him. On the other hand, Andujar is struggling for form at the moment and isn’t expected to pose a huge challenge.
Tip: Nishioka to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
