Lorenzo Sonego v Alexander Bublik Head to Head
Two previous meetings between these players have been split at one apiece. They first met at the Bratislava Challenger in 2018 where Bublik scored a straight-set win over Sonego. The Italian then made it 1-1 by winning their French Open second round encounter from earlier this season in straight sets too.

Clay Specialist Sonego Registers Biggest Win
If one had put some of their money on Sonego making it to the final of the Vienna Open, there’s a good chance the punter could have retired from his day job.
Jokes aside, Sonego had come into the tournament in Vienna having lost five successive matches on hard court and with a clay court record of 17-7 this season – a clear indicator of the chalk and cheese difference between his preferences around the two surfaces.
Which is also why it didn’t come across as much of a surprise when Sonego fell in the second qualifying round at Vienna, ready to pack his bags and prepare for the next tournament, here in Paris.
Instead a week on, he made it to the final of the tournament following on from having registered the biggest win of his career. It wasn’t just a victory against Novak Djokovic that surprised everyone – the world number one had lost just two matches till then all year – it was the manner of the win.
Sonego, who had earlier beaten Dusan Lajovic and Hubert Hurkacz in the first two rounds, routed Djokovic 6-2, 6-1 to seal his semifinal berth. In the semis, he then took down Dan Evans in another straight-set win and while the Italian lost to Andrey Rublev in the final, he had done his bit.
The question now is whether this 2019 Antalya Open winner can sustain this level of form across two successive weeks?

Bublik Bounced off Early Since Tennis Return
There was a quarterfinal appearance at the Hamburg Open for Bublik in September where he had entered the tournament as a qualifier but that aside, form has been hard to find for the Kazakh.
It all began with an opening round exit at the Cincinnati Open and he followed it up with similar losses at the US Open, Kitzbuhel Open and Rome Masters all of which led to a four-match losing streak he broke only at Hamburg. And then, since then, Bublik has not had the best of times again.
He did upset Gael Monfils in the first round of the French Open but then went down to Sonego in the second and won another opener at the St. Petersburg Open before losing in the second. However, one of his worst losses came at the Astana Open in the lead-up to the Paris Masters where the 1/2 favourite Bublik fell in straight sets to Mackenzie McDonald, a player he had defeated just a couple of weeks ago.
With Bublik’s form been so scratchy it comes as no surprise he starts off as a second favourite in this match, despite being being ranked in the same vicinity as his opponent.
Sonego v Bublik Prediction and Tip
While we think Sonego’s confidence would be sky-high and Bublik has been struggling otherwise, this could be a lot closer than one thinks because of the sheer physical toll Sonego would have had to endure. In fact we might see a three-setter that could go either way, with a three-setter expected.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
