Simon Finally Finds Form in Cologne
Cologne getting back to back ATP 250 indoor events due to the cancellations of other tournaments proved to be a blessing for the Frenchman. Simon was going through a terrible clay-court run where he had lost five out of the six matches. His only win on the surface had come in the first qualifying round at Hamburg.
He beat Marton Fucsovics in the first round of Cologne 1. And at Cologne 2, he recorded an impressive win over Denis Shapovalov in the second round before losing out a hard-fought three-setter against Jannik Sinner. The Frenchman has won 14 titles in his career and won two lower-level titles earlier this year as well.
But his best showing on an ATP event was at another home event in Marseille where he reached the semi-finals back in February.
That run ended a rather poor start to the season where the Frenchman had failed to make it past the second round in the opening four tournaments of the season. He would certainly be hoping that he can replicate that run at another home tournament this week.

Paul Makes First Quarters Since February
The American youngster had a very impressive start to the 2020 season with some notable results. He reached the last four at the Adelaide Open where he started off from the qualifying stages. During that run, he beat four players higher than him in ranking before losing to Lloyd Harris.
He followed it up with a third round appearance at the Australian Open and last-eight showing at Acapulco.
But his form suffered post that with him crashing out in the opening two rounds at six consecutive tournaments. He did show some signs of recovery at Hamburg where he won two qualifying rounds as well as his opening main draw match. But that was followed by early losses at French Open, Sardinia and Antwerp. But Nur-Sultan Indoors at Kazakhastan came at the right time for the 23-year-old.
He won two matches in straight sets and made it to the last eight for the first time in eight months. It was a close contest against John Millman that went down to the wire. Though the Australian won it in the third round tie break, Paul would take a lot of confidence from that showing.
Simon v Paul Prediction and Tip
Only one ranking spot separates the two players at the moment. And the match is also likely to be decided by a similar margin. Both the players picked up some form in their last tournaments and would be looking to continue their run in Paris. Simon’s experience and the fact that he will be playing in home conditions despite no fans in the stadium will give him a slight advantage.
Tip: Simon to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
