Borna Coric v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between Coric and Fucsovics. Coric has won both the previous matches, including one at the 2019 Australian Open in the second round and the second at the St. Petersburg Open also last year. Fucsovics was up by a set in that second meeting but lost the second set before having to retire in the third because of an injury.

Coric in the Middle of Solid Hard Court Run

While Coric went out in the second round at the Rome Masters and was then bundled out of the French Open in the first round, his performances outside of clay would have given him a good reason to cheer.

At the US Open, Coric overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round and then made it past Jordan Thompson to make it to his first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance. And then at the St. Petersburg Open, the two-time ATP title winner almost made it his third tournament victory when he defeated Reilly Opelka and Milos Raonic to make it to the final.

Unfortunately for him, the Croat was left to face the in-form Andrey Rublev and despite all the fight, he only managed to push him into a tie-breaker in the first set.

At the Vienna Open, while Coric went down to the world number one Novak Djokovic in the second round, it wasn’t before he had a golden opportunity in the first set. The Croat came close to closing out the first set multiple times before his good friend Djokovic held his nerve to win 7-6 (11), 6-3 win.

Bouyed by his showing this season so far, Coric will back himself to push on in this tournament.

Fucsovics Won’t Be a Pushover

A ranking of 52nd in the world with a career-best that hasn’t ever seen the top 30 suggests Fucsovics might not have it really easy in his opener but since the return to tennis, the Hungarian has shown some steady form.

Barring a first round defeat in the Cologne Open, Fucsovics got through the early stages of tournaments and even managed to trouble some of the best. Like for instance, at the Cincinnati Masters, in what was his first appearance after the tennis resumed, Fucsovics defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the second round.

At the US Open after that he repeated that dose to Dimitrov while overcoming Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the French Open. And even now while playing in the qualifiers, Fucsovics overcame the favourite Vasek Pospisil to make the main draw.

What that means is on his day, Fucsovics could prove to be a difficult nut to dislodge and Coric will have to avoid getting complacent here.

Coric v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Coric is a heavy favourite here but he will do well to not take this opener too lightly. A slight chance and Fucsovics could push the Croat to the distance.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
