Jordan Thompson v Federico Delbonis Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the opening round of the Indian Wells Masters last season and Thompson needed three sets and two tie-breakers to get Delbonis in that one.

Thompson’s Won Just Two Matches in As Many Months
It’s been nearly two months since Thompson made that sterling run at the US Open which saw him grab the fourth round berth. It ensured his best ever showing in a Grand Slam having earlier made the third round only once (at the 2019 French Open).
Since then, however, the Australian’s form has fallen away and in the five tournaments he has participated in, Thompson has won just two matches. The first came at the Kitzbuhel Open where he beat fellow Aussie John Millman and then he needed three hard-fought sets to get past Cameron Norrie earlier last week before losing to Emil Ruusuvouri in the second round.
Thompson could draw comfort from his performance in the only other indoors tournament he had played earlier this year. Featuring on the black courts of the New York Open, Thompson stunned two heavy servers, Ivo Karlovic and John Isner to make the quarterfinal there.
Incidentally, in what was Thompson best season on the lower Challenger circuit in 2018, Thompson had made it to the final of three Challenger competitions played indoors. While he lost all of them, his record on such surfaces isn’t one to trifle with and Delbonis will need to bring out his best to try and get past the Aussie.

Delbonis Hasn’t Won Indoors Since 2016
You read that right. The Argentinian qualifier, a clay-court specialist last won a main draw match in a tournament played on indoor hard courts, in 2016 at the Basel Open.
Since that win over Ricardas Berankis, he lost the next round, didn’t play a single match on the surface over the next two seasons before playing in three tournaments last year but not winning any first round encounters.
This year, Delbonis tried his hand at the Ismaning Challenger in Germany but was knocked out in the first round, and then faced the same fate at the Astana Open as well. With practically next to no confidence on the surface, the 76th-ranked Delbonis has done well to win a couple of rounds of qualifiers here which included a victory over the in-form Yannick Hanfmann.
That, however, might not be enough against his Aussie opponent who has shown what he is capable of in recent times.
Thompson v Delbonis Prediction and Tip
Thompson starts off at 2/5 to win this and we think this is a good chance to look at his games handicap.
Tip: Games Handicap Thompson -3.5: 1/1 (bet365)
