Matteo Berrettini v Marcos Giron Head to Head
The two have never faced each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever encounter between them.

Berrettini Needs A Tournament Win To Qualify For London
Matteo Berrettini hasn’t been in action for close to one month. His last match came in Paris as well, this time in the French Open. He lost to Daniel Altmaier in straight sets in the third round and hasn’t played a tournament since then.
He’s had a pretty mixed year, largely due to his injuries at the start of the season. After a great 2019 season — in which the Italian reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open and made his first appearance at the ATP Finals — he hoped to match such performances this year but injuries crippled down such hopes.
In total, he’s only played five tournaments prior to his appearance in the Paris Masters: Three Grand Slams and Two Masters, accumulating to 14 matches in the year, nine of which he’s won.
A slow return from his injuries is the reasoning behind this, but now he’ll hope to have fully recovered especially if he’s still hoping to make the ATP finals in London.
Realistically, his greatest chance of reaching the finals for a second time is by winning the tournament. He currently trails Diego Schwartzman by 210 points, and since ATP confirmed that last year’s ATP finals ranking points won’t be considered for the 2020 ATP Tour Finals qualification, he’ll lose 200 points and trail the Argentine by 410 points.
His options are then narrowed to two: hope that Schwartzman faces early elimination and that he reaches the latter stages of the tournament, or that he outrightly wins the tournament which will surely earn him qualification.
To achieve either of those, he’ll require a great start against Marcos Giron.

Giron’s Good Form Continues Against Ramos-Vinolas
27-year-old Giron has been in some good form following his exploits in the Antwerp Open that saw him reach the tournament’s quarterfinal, which pushed him to his career-best 86 place ATP ranking last month.
He’s pushed a lot in recent indoor tournaments and that continued with his first-round match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas. He took the first set after decisively breaking the Spaniard in the set’s penultimate game, but Ramos-Vinolas fought back to claim the second set 6-4. The third set, however, was one way-sailing.
Giron converted all three of his break points in that set to convincingly win the set 6-1, which in turn gave him the match. Additionally, he also rescued 67% of break points faced in the whole match, as well as capitalizing on his great serve to notch 12 aces.
That win followed good performances from the qualifying stage against 54th ranked Laslo Djere and 100th ranked Roberto Carballes Baena, matches which he both won in straight sets.
Up against a player who hasn’t played in a while, he may just have another secret ace up his sleeve.
Berrettini v Giron Prediction And Tip
Though I expect Berrettini to take this, his match fitness might be a bit of an issue. Giron, a late-career bloomer, has improved a lot and is in good form. He might even manage to scrape a set off the world no. 10. With that in mind, there’s a lot of value in seeking out the total number of games in the match.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 8/13 (bet365)
