Rafael Nadal v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between Nadal and Carreno Busta and the world number two has won all of them. This includes two matches this season in which Nadal defeated his Spanish opponent in straight sets at the Australian Open third round and followed it up with another easy win at the Rome Masters.

Nadal Not Clinical But Rolls On
Comparing Nadal with his awesome self on clay with Nadal on any other surface is foolhardy but those are the lofty standards on display from the Spaniard and one cannot really help doing that. Especially after his brilliance in the French Open final showing before this competition.
Nadal didn’t start things off too well in his second round match against Feliciano Lopez when he lost the first set and was pushed into a tie-breaker in the second. However, once he managed to find that missing rhythm, Nadal broke through the Lopez defence and made the third round.
And in this latest match, a third round encounter against Jordan Thompson, he was a whopping 1/16 favourite to win the match, managing to clinch it 6-1, 7-6 (3).
As the scoreline suggests, the first set was a cakewalk, with Nadal breaking his Aussie opponent twice to never look like he was in any trouble. In the second, however, Nadal found the going tough, unable to penetrate through his opponent’s serve even as he did not have any issues with his own.
In the end Nadal claimed the set – and therefore the match – in a tie-breaker but lacked the clinical finishing one is so used to seeing from him. Is it a matter of rustiness?

Carreno Busta’s Form is Back
Having fallen early in the two indoor tournaments he played since his quarterfinal appearance at the French Open, Carreno Busta has finally got some traction back on this surface. In the three matches he has played so far, Carreno Busta is yet to drop a set and has always found a way to get out of tricky situations.
In a rather shaky first set of his third round match against Norbert Gombos, Carreno Busta might have broken his opponent thrice but each time lost his own serve to take the set close to the tie-breaker.
The Spaniard then made it his fourth break of serve in the 11th game and managed to serve it out in the next to take the set 7-5. The second set became a lot easier for Carreno Busta, who raced off to a 4-0 lead with two breaks of serve.
And while Gombos got on to the board soon after, there was no looking back for Carreno Busta who completed the victory in straight sets.
That followed wins over Hugo Gaston and Jan-Lennard Struff, both in straight sets as well.
Nadal v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip
While one can expect Carreno Busta to put up a far more difficult challenge for Nadal than he did the last time they met – it was 6-1, 6-1 in Nadal’s favourite, we are backing the world number two to win this in straight sets.
Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
