Andrey Rublev v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head
This will be the third meeting between the two players.
They are currently tied 1-1 on head-to-head meetings. Andrey Rublev’s victory over Wawrinka was the most recent one between the two; it was a straight sets win that came in the 2019 Cincinnati Masters on a hard court.
On the other hand, Stan Wawrinka’s win was also in straight sets. That win came in the 2016 Maharashtra Open on a hard court.

Rublev Hits 40 For The Tour
Rublev’s straight sets win against Radu Albot was his 11th in a row, and his 40th of the season, giving him the most wins of the tour after recently surpassing Novak Djokovic’s 39 wins.
Additionally, his straight sets sailing means that he hasn’t conceded a set in his past seven matches (although that includes two matches where players retired).
He was impeccable in his win, conceding only three games in the entire match and controlling it from the baseline to complete the job in just 58 minutes.
He didn’t give Albot any break points and converted 67% of his own break points. His great offensive play and his lethal forehand were also key in giving him this win.
His relentlessness now takes him to the third round where he faces Wawrinka, and he’ll be hoping to notch win 12 in a row which will give him qualification to his 10th quarter-final of the season. Additionally, he’ll be eyeing his third straight title after his two most recent successes at Vienna and St. Petersburg.
With his current form, there’s no putting anything past the shining young star that is Rublev.

Wawrinka Battles Past Paul
Stalwart Wawrinka had a cagey tussle against his American opponent Tommy Paul. In a match that he’d walked in as the 2/5 favorite, he struggled to get going.
The American broke him in the first game of the match and shortly went 2-0 up. Wawrinka recovered to take it back to 2-2, but he was broken moments later, which proved decisive in giving Paul the first set.
The second set was a bizarre affair that had a total of 12 break points, six of which the two players each converted. The set went back and forth, with Wawrinka even failing to capitalize on two set points, which gave Paul the momentum to take it to a tie-break. The Swiss international held his nerve and finished the job in the tie-break to even the match at 1-1.
The third set proved to be easier sailing for him. He broke Paul twice and recovered two break points in the last game to win him the match.
He’ll now be hoping to reach his fifth quarter-final of the year when he plays Rublev. He’s had an average return to the season post the Covid-19 break.
He was knocked out in the first round of both the Italian and the Vienna Open, reached the third round of the French Open, but also made it to the quarter-final of the St. Petersburg Open.
Up against Rublev, however, he’ll need to tap into the form of his title-winning glory days if he’s to get anything from this tie.
Rublev v Wawrinka Prediction And Tip
Rublev’s romping momentum looks set to continue. His form is currently untouchable, and both his tenacity and great offensive play should prove to be superior against an aging pro. He might even take this in straight sets, but for now, rest assured that the Russian will shine in this one.
Tip: Rublev to win: 1/2 (bet365)
