Daniil Medvedev v Milos Raonic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev has won both. The first came at the 2018 Japan Open quarterfinal, indoors, and Medvedev was a straight-set winner. He made it 2-0 with a three-set victory over Raonic at the Brisbane International last year.

Medvedev Mojo Looks to Have Returned
A semifinal at the US Open this year looked to be just reward for Medvedev after having finished a runnerup last season, but since then the Russian has had some struggle. Back to back first round losses on clay were followed by a second round defeat indoors at the St. Petersburg Open.
Medvedev then showed some spark last week when he made it to the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open but a surprise loss at the hands of Kevin Anderson looked to have brought back the memories of those difficult times.
He faced Anderson yet again earlier in this tournament and the match looked to have begun the way it had finished – a tie-breaker following the one they had played out in Vienna. It was at this stage Anderson retired from the match and Medvedev made it to the third round.
Even there, there were obvious issues for Medvedev after he lost the opening set but then steamrolled Alex de Minaur in the next two to enter the last eight. And continuing on from a 6-2, 6-2 win, he then won the next two sets 6-3, 6-1 against Diego Schwartzman too to signal his return to form.
Schwartzman might not have been the favourite – he started off 9/5 to win it – but the manner in which Medvedev slammed past the Argentine should be a warning sign to his opponents.

Raonic Scrapes Past Humbert
Raonic’s excellent form all tournament meant he started off his quarterfinal at 1/3 favourite to win it but the match turned out to be anything but a straightforward one for the Canadian.
The first set went to script though, with Raonic making the first – and only – break of the set in the fourth game and holding on to his serve with relative ease. In a stunning turn of events, Humbert broke the world number 17 to 15 in the second game of the set and barely had any issue after that holding on.
With the match tied at a set apiece, Raonic came back from three break-points down in the very first game to hold on and from there on both players kept doing that throughout the set. When the tie-breaker started out, Raonic still held the edge but very soon he fell 1-5 down and the writing seemed to be on the wall.
Unfortunately for Humbert, Raonic was in no mood to give up as he saved two match-points before winning it in three.
A confident Medvedev will still remain a player to beat though.
Medvedev v Raonic Prediction and Tip
Medvedev is a favourite but Raonic’s serve might not be the easiest to handle. That said we are backing the third set to edge this contest and make it to his first final of the year.
Tip: Medvedev to win: 4/7 (bet365)
