Egor Gerasimov v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Gerasimov and Andujar.

Gerasimov Gets Going in Astana

After a poor start to the post-pandemic season resumption, Gerasimov looked to have found some of his bearings in his last tournament. The Belarusian needed three sets in both of his opening two round matches, against Lloyd Harris and Jiri Vesely, but he won and came through to the quarterfinal at that tournament on indoor hard court surfaces.

That he lost to Frances Tiafoe wasn’t entirely unexpected but he did make a fighting statement before going down 6-7, 7-5, 5-7 in a thrilling three-setter.

Having won just one main draw in the six tournaments he had played since August, the signs of recovery looked to have been there at the Cologne 2 Open. He overcame the highly-talented Alexei Popyrin in the qualifiers before winning his opening round match there – just his second since the US Open first round win.

Again, his defeat to Felix Auger-Aliassime was on expected lines but not before he had taken the first set and forced his highly-pedigreed Canadian opponent into two tie-breakers after that.

He would hope for the turnaround to continue here in Sofia.

Andujar Struggles Indoors

Spain’s Andujar is a very reliable player on clay but winning matches on indoor hard courts has always been a tough proposition.

He did make it to the second round of the Antwerp Open by beating Federico Coria, but was sent packing in the second by Grigor Dimitrov – admittedly in a fighting three-setter. And then at the Paris Masters he blew away another one set lead to Yoshihito Nishioka to crash out in the first round of the competition.

Add his performances on indoor hard court surfaces last year, where he played in four such tournaments and lost the first match he played in all of them, and it’s not too difficult to say Andujar isn’t too fond of this surface. Which is also why Gerasimov, despite being a lower-ranked player than the Spaniard, will fancy his chances in this one.

Gerasimov v Andujar Prediction And Tip

Gerasimov is 1/2 to win this and for good reasons too. Andujar might be able to push him into a third but that’s about it. A safe punt is for a Gerasimov win while a three-set victory looks likely too.

Tip: Gerasimov to win: 1/2 (bet365)
