Millman Finally Wins a Title

Good things come to people who wait is an oft-repeated line and Millman looked to be the beneficiary of that a week or so ago when he won his first ever ATP title at the Astana Open.

The 31-year-old defeated a host of good-quality players to lift his career-first. After a first round bye, Millman routed Fernando Verdasco, needed three sets to edge out Tommy Paul, another comeback from behind win over Frances Tiafoe before registering a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Adrian Mannarino in the final.

Interestingly, the win came as a surprise, following a string of tournaments in which the Aussie struggled to stitch together a couple of wins in a row. A second round exit at the US Open was his best performance having also made it to round two at Rome and Cologne before that.

Unfortunately for Millman, he followed that up with a first round defeat at the Paris Masters, going down to Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets. He now faces an opponent ranked more than 600 places behind him – should not be too much trouble now, should it?

Futures Form Wins Andreev a Wildcard

Andreev’s Futures form has been quite solid, especially over the last couple of years, helping him jump up into the 660s on the world ranking. That said, it was equally impressive to watch Andreev feature at the International Tennis Series, an exhibition tournament which was played during the pandemic break.

Played in April-May using the Fast4 Format, Andreev played 24 matches and won a whopping 22 out of them. His twin defeats came at the hands of Paolo Lorenzi before he managed to defeat him in what was the final match of that series.

Interestingly, Andreev has played a total of five matches indoors and lost all of them but four of them came at the ATP level. It started with a couple of qualifiers at the Metz Open in 2016 and the Sofia Open in 2017 before he got his first wild-card to the Sofia Open main draw. He went down in the first round there.

Last year he won his first set as a wildcard in this very tournament, before going down to Matt Ebden of Australia and then lost his opening match at a Futures tournament on this surface.

Can he now repeat trouble another Aussie?

Millman v Andreev Prediction And Tip

Millman starts off as a 1/10 favourite to win this while Andreev is 9/2 to cause a surprise. It’s interesting the Bulgarian is this short despite the parity in the rankings, and it might not be that bad an option to back Millman on the games handicap of -4.5.

Tip: Games Handicap Millman -4.5
