Aslan Karatsev v Taro Daniel Head to Head

The two have never faced each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever encounter between them.

Karatsev Looking To Replicate Challenger Tour Form

Aslan Karatsev will be hoping to transfer some of his great form from the challenger tournaments he’s played this year. He won two challenger tournaments: the Prague II Challenger and the Ostrava Challenger, and reached the final in two other challenger tournaments as well.

In the main tour, however, he hasn’t done much except stun Tennys Sandgren in St. Petersburg. He eventually lost to compatriot Karen Khachanov in the second round of the St. Petersburg Open, and couldn’t make it past the first round of the Astana Open in his most recent tournament.

He also fell short in qualifying for the French and Maharashtra Open but did well to qualify for this tournament. He dispatched Marc-Andrea Huesler and Alexander Donski in straight sets in the qualifiers to earn him this spot.

With a relatively easier opening draw this time around, he should be confident of at least avoiding immediate elimination.

Daniel Finally Makes It Through

After losing recent qualifiers for the Sardinia Open, French Open, and Italian Open, Taro Daniel finally made it through the qualifiers. He defeated Martin Klizan and Zdenek Kolar in straight sets in the qualifiers, playing some great tennis in the process.

Barring the challenger tournaments, the last time he competed in a tournament’s main draw was in the Us Open two months ago. He lost to Gregoire Barrere then in the first round and has since mainly competed in challenger tournaments.

Like his first-round opponent, he’s also performed well in the challenger tournaments. He’s won two: the Burnie Challenger and the Hamburg Challenger. In fact, his win in Hamburg was recent, which gives him some great momentum coming into Sofia.

He’ll ride that momentum into the tournament, especially since he’s so closely matched with his Russian opponent Karatsev.

Karatsev v Daniel Prediction and Tip

The two players have so many similarities, and their level of experience in tournaments played this year seems to be similarly on par. Additionally, they are ranked so close to each other with the possibility of swapping positions, making ATP points in such a match and such a stage of the season really crucial. Therefore, expect a really close encounter that will need to be decided in a third set.

Tip: Match to have three sets: 6/4 (bet365)
