Adrian Mannarino v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players with Mannarino leading the tally with two wins to one. The Frenchman won in Tashkent back in 2014 and once again in Moscow four years later. Gerasimov’s only win over Mannarino came in 2019 at the St. Petersburg Open. Interestingly, none of the previous three matches has gone into a deciding set.

Mannarino Having a Strong End to the Season

After failing to win a single match in the clay-court season this year and going on a five-match losing run, Mannarino’s form has really picked up on the indoor hard courts. The fifth seed came into Sofia on the back of an incredible run at Astana and respectable performances in Cologne. The Frenchman reached the finals at Nur-e-Sultan before falling on the last hurdle to John Millman.

That performance had come on the back of a quarter-final appearance at Cologne where he reached the last eight and gave a tough fight to Alexander Zverev. Next up was Paris Masters where Mannarino once again made it to the last eight before falling to Zverev once again in an even tighter contest.

In the first round here in Sofia, the 32-year-old was up against lucky loser Martin Klizan. And despite dropping the first set, Mannarino came back strongly to take the match in three sets. The fifth seed will be hoping to repeat his heroics from Kazakhstan this week and hopefully go one step further in Sofia.

Gerasimov Looking Threatening on Fast Indoor Courts

Just like his opponent, the 27-year-old was going through a terrible run of results prior to the indoor hardcourt season. Since the resumption of the season post the pandemic break, the Belarusian had lost six out of his first eight matches, three of which were on the qualifying stages.

But since the tour moved from the red soil to faster indoor courts, Gerasimov has looked a completely different player.

His big serve and flat groundstrokes are tailor-made for these conditions. He reached the round of 16 in Cologne 2 after starting out from the qualifying rounds. And he went one step further a week later in Astana.

Gerasimov reached the last eight at Nur-e-Sultan where he went down in a tight three-set contest to Frances Tiafoe. Once again in the opening round here in Sofia, the Belarussian had to battle hard to get past Viktor Troicki.

Mannarino v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

Even though Mannarino starts the match as the favourite, it’s going to be a tight contest. Both the players have looked much better on the indoor courts and are in form. It will be a battle of powerful hitting and quick groundstrokes. And the player who makes the fewer errors is likely to progress.

Tip: Mannarino to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
