Krejcikova Huffs & Puffs Past Harmony

Despite being a 3/10 favourite in her first round match against a player ranked outside the top 200, Krejcikova needed more than two hours and three sets to get past Harmony Tan.

Krejcikova was off to a slow start when she fell 1-3 behind in the opening set but then looked to have found her mojo and ran off to win the next six games in a row, including the wrapping of the first set. And when she found herself having a couple of break points in the second game of the second set, an easy win looked to be on the cards.

Tan fought back to hold, and then the pair exchanged four breaks of serve, which included Krejcikova muffing up an opportunity to serve it out at 5-3. Taking advantage of this lapse in focus, Krejcikova was broken again and dropped the set.

Fortunately for the world number 74, who had made it to the fourth round at the French Open earlier this year, she re-discovered her rhythm to complete an easy win in the final set.

Minnen Makes Mincemeat of Yastremska

Dayana Yastremska is one of the players to watch out in the future and while she hasn’t gone very deep in tournaments this season, her early performances in most competitions have been solid and clinical. Which is why Minnen went into their opening round match as a rank outsider at 3/1 to win it.

Minnen raced off to the kind of a start which suggested the bookmakers had got it woefully wrong. Breaking her opponent twice, she was serving for a 4-0 lead, and while Yastremska retaliated with two breaks of her own to level it off at 3-3 she dropped her serve again in the seventh game.

From there on, Minnen took full control as she served out for the set in the 10th game and then broke Yastremska immediately in the second set. The script from the first set repeated in that the more-fancied Yastremska broke back to make it 3-3 but lost her serve in the very next game before Minnen carved out another break to win the match.

She now faces an opponent who is more a clay-court specialist which could make things interesting.

Krejcikova v Minnen Prediction And Tip

While Krejcikova is 4/7 to win this, Minnen will have a good chance here given how things went recently, a good chance to win a set at the very least.

Tip: Minnen to win a set – Yes: 8/15 (bet365)
