Veronika Kudermetova v Arantxa Rus Head to Head

These two have played each other twice before this and Kudermetova has won both times. The first outing came in Bucharest last year on clay before they met again as recently as the previous tournament in Ostrava. That match came in the qualifiers and Kudermetova was a 7-5, 6-2 winner.

Kudermetova Double-Bagels Haas

In one of the rare occurrences of the season, Kudermetova carved out a 6-0, 6-0 win over Barbara Haas in her first round match here in Linz. While we did expect a straight-set win for the Russian, we were woefully off the mark with our prediction – but then again who would have thought the Russian would manage a double-bagel in her opener.

Sure, the form was on Kudermetova’s side after the Russian had managed to make it to the main draw at the Ostrava Open just before this and then win a couple more of the matches in the main draw. Kudermetova overcame Donna Vekic and stunned Karolina Pliskova in those two rounds before falling to Jennifer Brady.

And while she lost in the quarterfinal there, the confidence from winning against those two players looked to have rubbed off on Kudermetova. The 23-year-old needed only 52 minutes on court and faced only two break-points in the entire match before completing the drubbing.

Kudermetova will face sterner tests as the tournament wears on but having played some of the best tennis of her life in the previous couple of weeks means opponents will be slightly more worried than usual.

Rus Hoping for Rare Back to Back Wins

The last time Rus won back to back main draw matches, the world at large hadn’t heard of Covid-19. It had come in the Monterrey Open where Rus reached the semifinal, before losing to Elina Svitolina.

And while she hasn’t done that again since, there have been a few sparks of brilliance from the world number 72.

Like when she took Serena Williams to three sets, two of which were tie-breakers, at the Cincinnati Open. Or when she defeated the eventual French Open champion Iga Swiatek on clay in Rome.

Rus will also take heart from the fact she defeated Tamara Zidansek in straight sets in her first round match here in Linz. She defeated the Slovenian 6-4, 6-4 but now takes on an uber-confident opponent in round two.

Kudermetova v Rus Prediction And Tip

Kudermetova is 4/9 to win this and 1/1 to do that in straight sets. Would be a surprise if she doesn’t win it even as we back her to do that without dropping a set.

Tip: Kudermetova to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
