Gasquet Looking At Best 2020 Performance
Once ranked number seven in the world and a regular member of the top 15 in the world, French veteran Richard Gasquet has had a couple seasons of injuries, poor form and disappointing losses. Ranked number 49th in the world, he had a good run at the ATP 250 in Montpellier back in February, but the return to the season has been far from satisfactory for the Frenchman.
A mix of good play and fortune has worked well for Gasquet thus far this week in Sofia as he ran into Roberto Baena Carballes of Spain who he dispatched in straight sets in the opener and then was potentially scheduled to play Marin Cilic, but a nightmarish 2020 for Cilic ended at the hands of number 339 from Czech Republic, Jonas Forejtek. Gasquet breezed past his unknown Czech opponent with minimal trouble and with the top seeds from Canada losing early, is in with a shot for a deep run this week.
2020 has not been a particularly good season for the Frenchman, but a good end here will raise his confidence heading Down Under for the start of the new season.

Caruso Confident After Auger-Aliassime Win
Italian Salvatore Caruso has been on the ATP tour since the middle of the last decade and is a natural clay courter with success at the ATP Challenger and ITF Futures level, winning five ITF Futures titles.
Caruso had his best performance in a major at this year’s US Open making the round of 32, and equalling his 2019 French Open accomplishments. His US Open campaign saw him reach a career high of 80 in the ATP world rankings. He has made some other rounds of 32, at the Paris Masters last week and in Rome earlier in the season as well.
Up against little known Dimitar Kuzmanov in the opener here, Caruso did well to come back and win in three sets after losing the opening set. But, what will stand out the most is his convincing second round win against up and rising Canadian Felix Auger- Aliassime. It was a confident display by Caruso and an underwhelming one for the Canadian, with a straights set 6-4,6-4 win.
Gasquet v Caruso Prediction and Tip
Gasquet starts as the favorite on experience, but the Italian will feel good after the win against Auger-Aliassime and how convincing it was. Expect a tight match, with the more seasoned Frenchman pulling through in a decider.
Tip: Gasquet to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
