Alexander Zverev v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head
This will be the fifth between both players, with the head-to-head tied at 2-2. Their last meeting was at the finals in Cologne last month, where Zverev won the title, only dropping three games in that match.

2018 Form On Zverev’s Mind
Alexander Zverev surprised one and all with a strong run here in 2018, defeating Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the semi-finals and the finals respectively. It has been an up and down last couple of seasons for the German.
But, it was here last year that he turned his form around making the semi-finals, followed by the Australian Open semis this year, the US Open finals, back-to-back Cologne titles and the final at the Paris Masters a week ago.
In the same group as world number one Novak Djokovic, Paris Masters winner Daniil Medvedev and London debutante Diego Schwartzman, Zverev opened his campaign against Medvedev, in what was a repeat of the Paris Masters finals just a week ago.
The match got off with long rallies and powerful groundstrokes as both players broke each other in their opening games and we looked set for a long fight ahead. After both players failed to convert more break points, Medvedev finally broke again for a 4-2 lead and served well thereafter to close out the set 6-3.
The Russian maintained the level in the second set as Zverev’s second serve percentage let him down. Unlike the Bercy final, where the Zverev serve was his weapon, today it let him down when he needed it.
Zverev was down 0-30 and 15-30 one too many times on his serve, and when he netted a forehand at 3-3 in the second set, the writing was well on the wall. Medvedev kept the consistent serving and strong play going, and eventually closed the set 6-4 for a straight sets win.
With his next two matches against Schwartzman and Djokovic respectively, the German knows the task is not easy, and will want to put up a convincing display against the Argentine, as there are no easy matches against Djokovic, regardless of the surface or venue.

London Debutante Schwartzman Hoping To Compete Strongly
The shorter 2020 season has been an impressive won for Diego Schwartzman who is the eighth entrant at the ATP Tour Finals this year.
Making his first entry in the tournament, the Argentine was a finalist at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome where he defeated Rafael Nadal for the first time in his career, and also a semi-finalist at the French Open, defeating one of the title favorites Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals.
Schwartzman began his campaign here against world number one and five time tournament winner Novak Djokovic. Off to a quick start, the Argentine broke first for a 2-1 lead in the first set. But, against one of the best return games there has been in the sport, i.e. Djokovic, it is hard to consolidate being up a break. The Serb immediately broke back and went from strength to strength in no time as he clinched the first set 6-3.
The second set saw Djokovic increase his level and speed as he looked to be in a hurry to close his opening match. With two breaks of serve, there was no looking back for the top seed, who closed the set and the match 6-2 in the second.
It was a clinical display by the 17 time Grand Slam winner and although Schwartzman put in all he could, the task is always uphill on these faster indoor courts against the best in the business.
Zverev v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip
Neither of the players will be particularly pleased with their performance in the opener and will be hoping to turn it around sooner rather than later, knowing fully well that their second group match is as good as a ‘must-win’ now. It has been a phenomenal season for Schwartzman, and he has beaten Zverev before on the hard courts of the US Open and knows what it takes to prevail.
But, Zverev has been a winner here in 2018, and has a game well suited to the faster indoor surfaces. A good contest on the cards; expect Zverev to prevail in two hard fought sets.
Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
