Fabio Fognini v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head
This is the sixth between the players, with Fognini leading the head-to-head 4-1, with Chardy’s only win coming on the outdoor hard courts of Indian Wells.

Talented But Unpredictable Fognini Aiming For Strong Start To Season
A well known face on the ATP tour has been Italian Fabio Fognini with oodles of talent and skill, but also a volatile nature that has resulted in unpredictability on and off the court. Fognini had a good run in 2019, where he reached a career high ranking of number nine on the tour and won his first ever ATP Masters 1000 title at Monte Carlo, including a win against Rafa Nadal on clay.
The pandemic-hit 2020 season got off to a decent start for the Italian with a second week appearance at Melbourne Park, and competitive runs at Dubai and Rotterdam. However, after not travelling to the US, it was a disappointing clay season for the veteran with less than satisfactory performances at Kitzbuhel, Hamburg, Rome and Roland Garros.
Fognini did not have the easiest of openers here at the Antalya Open this week either against little known Czech Michael Vrbensky who pushed him into a tiebreaker, but pulled off a straight sets win eventually.
Can Chardy Pull An ‘Upset’ ?
French veteran Jeremy Chardy has been on the ATP tour for a decade and a half, and had some promising wins and runs. Ranked in the top 30’s on the circuit at one point in time, Chardy was never able to consolidate on his talent and only won one ATP level title in his career. At 33 years of age, and now ranked just within the top 100, the Frenchman is looking to salvage a disappointing recent run on the tour.
The shortened 2020 season due to the pandemic, was overall not a good one for Chardy. After an opening round exit at the Australian Open in 2020, Chardy returned to the tour after the Covid-19 hiatus on the US hard courts, but the rest of the season was abysmal for the Frenchman with several opening round losses. The veteran ended his tour with an early opening day loss at Roland Garros in October.
Chardy looked in good touch in his opener here against the experienced Radu Albot with a convincing straight sets win. The outdoor hard courts at Antalya are to his liking and he will be hoping to press home the advantage even further this week.
Fognini v Chardy Prediction and Tip
An interesting clash between two veterans with dynamic personalities; both talented athletes, but consistency has been lacking in recent times. While Chardy looked more in control in his opener, Fognini is definitely the more experienced and seasoned.
Expect a close tussle between both on the hard courts, with the veteran Italian pulling through in a decider.
Tip: Fognini to win in 3 sets: 3/1 (bet365)
