Frances Tiafoe v Bjorn Fratangelo Head to Head
Tiafoe and Fratangelo will meet for the first time at tour-level. However, the pair have faced off four times on the Challenger tour. Incredibly, it is the 27-year-old Fratangelo who leads the series 3-1, taking the last three meetings on the trot.

Tiafoe Makes Winning Start
Frances Tiafoe made a winning start to his 2021 campaign, beating resurgent qualifier and close friend Donald Young 6-3 6-4.
Tiafoe garnered four service breaks in the match, keeping his compatriot on the edge of his seat throughout the contest. He did however, scale a hurdle particularly in the second set where the pair exchanged breaks early on, before the 31-year-old decided to hang on with Tiafoe until the tenth game of the second set.
Both players showed supreme athletism in one thrilling rally at 5-4. Eventually, Young cracked and felt the scoreboard pressure when he produced an untimely sixth double fault on match point.
Tiafoe will next face another American in the shape of Bjorn Fratangelo in the second round. He will now try and address a very modest record which has over his opponent who has beaten him in their last three matches.
But it is worth noting they have never faced off in over four years – a span which has unearthed a much more composed and established top tier player in Tiafoe.

Fratangelo Picks Up Maiden Delray Win
Bjorn Fratangelo made the most of his wildcard entrant spot by picking up his first main draw win at the Delray Beach Open. He beat the American qualifier Kevin King 6-2 6-2 to advance to the second round. His only other appearance at this event was in 2017, where he lost in first round to Yen-Hsun Lu.
Fratangelo was neat and tidy from the back of the court this time, winning almost half of return points on King’s first serve (15 out of 32) and converted four of the six break points he conjured.
After spending the off-season in quarantine with his girlfriend and current WTA player Madison Keys, the pair put greater emphasis on net play, returns and serve on practice.
With three ATP Challenger titles to his name, Fratangelo’s career has had its own comebacks from lengthy injuries. Who knows maybe the stars will align for a breakthrough week in Florida’s southeast coast.
Tiafoe v Fratangelo Prediction and Tip
Fratangelo owns a 3-1 head-to-head record against his second round opponent, but Tiafoe has now hatched into life and plays with panache. It would be a real shock if he is to extend that winning sequence here.
