Nick Kyrgios v Alexandre Müller Head to Head

Kyrgios Hasn’t Played Since February 2020

Since retiring from the first round of the Acapulco Open last year, the six-time ATP winner, Kyrgios hasn’t played any competitive tennis. In the interim, he has stirred a few pots, endured a few controversies and been a part of a few Instagram Lives, but has kept away from tennis.

Until now that is. The Aussie returns to the fold with his first match on the ATP circuit in Melbourne, as he builds up towards the season’s first Grand Slam competition in the same city in a little over a week from now.

Two of the three tournaments Kyrgios played last season came in Australia too and he did rather well in them. At the ATP Cup, Kyrgios won three of his four matches for Australia, losing in the end to Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut, before making it to the fourth round at the Australian Open too.

He followed it up with a trip to Acapulco where he was the defending champion but lasted all of nine games before withdrawing from his encounter against Ugo Humbert.

Can the really rusty but highly talented Kyrgios get going quickly enough before the Australian Open?

Clay Court Specialist Müller Looks to Add to Main Draw Appearances

Ranked 208th in the world, Frenchman Muller has played in only two main draw singles matches at the highest level but comes into this match with some pedigree. He has won six Challenger and Futures titles, including five on clay.

And while hard court isn’t quite his most favourite surface, nine career finals on it at the Challenger level speaks volumes about how well he can do even on them.

Muller, who lost in the final qualifying round at the Australian Open, did not win any titles last year but back to back semifinal appearances at the Marbella and Ortisei Challenger competitions to finish off the season should hold him in a good stead.

Especially against a player who hasn’t played any tennis in the time he himself has appeared in more than a dozen tournaments.

Kyrgios v Müller Prediction and Tip

On paper, Kyrgios shouldn’t have any problems against a player ranked more than 160 places behind him but there could be a few hiccups as he looks to get back into some sort of a groove before that. Expecting Muller to trouble Kyrgios.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
